What do you guys do with the heat shield (sheet metal) that is left exposed when the rear fender is taken off? I’m sure you have all see the FE that is being used a lot for the 07s.
When the rear fender is taken off and not replaced (obviously) the heat shield is a bit wider than the rear fairing can cover. It looks a little bit unsightly. I do plan on adding a slip on at the beginning of next season, just wondering what others have done to make it look a bit more appealing.

Here is mine: I didn't even use the stock heat shield. A bunch of people have been telling me that its not necessary and the exhaust doesn't get hot enough to melt anything.

 

I have the same FE. Like i said i am gettingh a slip on next season... How did you remove the sheild? Take off the rear fairing and seats?

 

Are those flush mout side signals that you used for rear signals in addition to the tail light/signals

 

well i have to same set up as that just the carbon slip on, and the FE kit comes with everything you see there and you can get it on ebay for about $120

me tooo... I do not have any heat shielding left. No heat at all, but I'm sure the carbonfiber helps some. I even made my own brackets to hold the exhaust higher. Several long rides and no sign of heat damage.

 

take the stock heat shield off and order some Cool-It heat tape from www.summitracing.com.

it is stick on heat reflective tape that comes silver but can be painted black

 

+1 on that ive heard nothing but good things on that stuff i just figured i would go without it for a little while and see if i could find anything that was melting but so far nothing is. ive been on alot of 1+ hour rides and nothing so far, but im pretty sure the carbon has something to do with it also.

 

Especially if you have CF you shouldn't have to worry about it that much bcause it doesn't get as hot.
