Default Conversion Experience

In fact, I laughed when people got sprocket upgrades because I felt the bike had plenty of power below 5-6k rpm.

Then I got my 07, and for the first time I actually felt the lack of bottom end power. Below 6k there's not really any serious pull that my 06 had, even in 1st gear. But don't get me wrong, after that I can surely feel the improvement in mid-range power over my old 06. I thought, that something is wrong with my 07 because it's supposed to be a step up from previous years in every aspect.

Then I was talking to makct04 and he brought up the fact that the 03-06 has stock gearing of 16/43, and the 07+ has stock gearing of 16/42. Could this be the reason why I felt my 06 had more pull on the bottom end of the power band?

Both bikes were custom mapped by the same guy on the same dyno, and my 07 came out making considerably more power (in terms of the gains, not end number). Yet, the bottom end on my 07 still seems lacking somewhat. I just want some insight into this, and whether or not it's the different gearing making the difference. Again, input from owners who had/have both generations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Lets just say 520 conversions can be serious if done right. I had the 98 f3 for my first bike and after i did a 520 conversion -1 front +2 rear it felt like a different bike. I soon after sold it and bought the 05-06 cbr and can honestly say my old f3 pulled harder than rr down low. Im currently about to do a +2 rear conversion on the rear for more acceleration at a not so drastic cost to the top end....you know just enough to compete with the acceleration of my buddys three cylinder 675 (Itll b more than enough). The minus one up front is a huge change though. On the f3 my top speed went from about 152mph to 133ish. You feel it but it depends what you want the conversion for. Ill be changing the rr sprockets per track so its all preference. If you dont wanna do over 150mph and wheelie alot then id go -1 front +2 rear and the bike will pull like at least a 3 cylinder (never ridin a two). BE AWARE youll need a speedo healer to compensate (apporx. $100) and a new chain (i recommend the RK XW 520 X-Ring chain, one of the best you can get)

i dont see any reason why you really need power under 6k. i mean if your draggin it you would slip clutch at 6500 and above and if your tracking it you will never see below 6k and on the street starting from a light in just normal traffic you should not have lag. if it seems sluggish maybe you need to do some maintenance. air filter plugs oil change .
