Default Downshifting to first

When I was riding yesterday for the first time, I wasnt able to downshift to first in a red signal. but not always.

After a complete stop, I try to rev a little and then downshift to 1st. I am missing something here or doing it the wrong way. Before you stop completely, are you guys able to downshift to 1st or do u guys hold the clutch, stop completely and then downshift?

I used to downshift to 1st gear by gear before I come to a complete start when I took the MSF course. I am finding it difficult to do the same with my CBR!

Hmmm...doesn't sound normal. So, you're saying you can't downshift into first from second (or a higher gear)when coming up to a stop? That's not normal at all.

I'm real new to streetbike, so I will say that I have been using all gears as carefull and as often as possible. I have not had any problems shifting into firsy either holding the clutch comming up on a stop or setting at stop and downshifting then either. I've heard that sometime the clutch cable tension sould cause some issue but I've never dealt with it. Sorry if this does not help.

Normally the bike needs to be in a little moving position when shifting down to the 1st gear!!
If you can you should shift to 1st gear before coming to a full stop!!
Otherwise you have to sometimes move your bike back and forth to shift to the lowest gear!!
Hope this helps!!

i noticed today that mine does it also.

same with my dirtbike

when going from high gears (5,6) down to first with the clutch in sometimes it doesnt want to go, you have to slip the clutch a little and it will pop down to the lower gear, sometimes it must be done a couple of times..

is this a new bike? if so, i wouldn't worry about it too much. try rocking the bike back and forth 3-4 inches and it will slip into gear.

holy crap, people just post the same question at the same time, e swear i have seen this question asked like nine times in the past two days.

no prob tho, because i learned alot. look at the thread that is titled something like "clunking when shifting" or "clunking while riding, oil?" a reply by jfunk will lead you to the answer. there is a write up that explains it. its how big the dogs are and how small the locks go into them..

its all mumbo jumbo coming out of my mouth, but go read it
