Thanks for all of your feedback... a combination of the two gives the best control. I haven't been riding that long and some people say save the clutch, pads are cheaper... but as pointed out above being in the right gear can get you out of a sticky situation.

yea, its definetely both, you'll always want to keep the engine in its working rpm range. as for your clutch, as long as you're downshifting properly, you'll be ok, thats what it was made for after all.

BOTH ASK YOURSELF WOULD YOU RATHER REPLACE BRAKE PADS OR A TRANSMISSION LOL I DOWN SHIFT 2gears at a time and hit the gas before engaging the clutch to bring the rpms up to catch easy when coming to a stop if that makes sence

I use a combo of both...but kinda related to this topic...

Anyone have a problem that if they dont downshift enough before stopping, they can't get into 1st?

For example, this has happened to me a few times, and I'm kinda scared its my 7k '03 tranny. I've been cruising in 5th and had to come to a quick stop...and didnt down shift but just pulled the clutch in...then when I down shift after coming to a stop, I can't go past neutral, and have to start in 2nd.

Am I not kicking hard enough on the shifter or am I just an idiot?
