Default Damn Stripped Drain Plug!! $%^%$

Went to do an oil change on the 600RR I just bought, and come to find out, the damn drain plug is completly rounded off all over. The idiot that owned it before me must have never replaced it when it was going bad or something.

My question is, how in the world do i get this thing off? I bought the craftsman bolt off kit, but that didnt do a damn thing. Any ideas?

There are three ways I know of; first and easiest, is using a vise grips. If that doesn't work then you can use a (spare)socket that is a little small and hammer it on, however I am not sure the oil pan in strong enough for that. Another way is to drill a hole through the head, just like you are prepping for racing, except a little bigger, then use a something strong like an allen wrench and turn it. Hope one of these works!

Is the bolt stripped or is the head rounded off? If it's rounded, something like a mini pipe wrench would take it off, but you need to have the replacement in hand first. You don't want to drain the oil and leave it sit for a while.

Oh yeah... I'm an old guy and I've changed my own oil since I was 12....

You never need to tighten the bolt or filter like it's going to run away from you. The bolt needs snugged with a wrench and the filter... I alway, always hand tighten and I am able to remove by hand. I do use kevlar gloves that have rubber beads to keep the heat off my hand and it gives me the leverage I need.

I always do that too. but this one is one there like someone put it on with an impact wrench or something. Its killing me.

The Bolt is completely round. I'll try a mini pipe wrench after i can get a new bolt from the dealer tomorrow. Thanks guys!

don collins has very strong hands...so be careful...muahahah...

if all else fails, cut a groove in the bolt like this ---- as if you're going to use a flat head screwdriver. make sure it's deep but not too deep. then take a flat head screw driver attachment (widest you can find) and then put that on a socket and crank it away.

^ could flat spot two sides of the bolt head too and use an open end wrench that fits...
