2006 CBR600RR
Changed the oil last week - has not been rode since oil change, only started.
New battery within the last 2 months.
Started fine several times yesterday. Then took it for a ride about 5 minutes in it started to smoke (white) from the exhaust. Turned the bike off. Bike would not start when trying to start it again. When I turn the key I can hear the fuel pump and the all the lights come on. When I attempt to start it will not turn over and the lights go out. Voltage tested battery and its good.
Not sure what to do from here? or why it was smoking?
And the obvious things I have already made sure is the kickstand is down and it is in neutral.

 

Where is this white smoke coming from? Exhaust or under seat?

If under seat, it is frying electronics. You’ve got major wiring problems like short circuit melting wiring insulation. Fuses should’ve blown to protect wiring.

Don’t try to start it until you find problem and fix it. Can cause very expensive damage like destroyed harness and ECU.

Do these 2 measurements:

1. Battery power with everything OFF, volts= ??


2. Battery power when cranking, volts = ??

 

The smoke was coming from the exhaust.

Which I have read is because of water/condensation burning off if the bike has been sitting OR coolant leaking

Yes, when starting cold, you can get white from water-condensation in crankcase and exhaust from last shutdown.
Smoke is fine.

test power when cranking and that should give good data for troubleshooting further.

Check the spark plugs...they will tell you what's going on inside the combustion chamber and it's easy n free. A wet plug won't spark. Did you change oil types? Thiner oil on a worn engine can cause blow by on most motors. The plug would be covered either by excessive soot or oil itself. If your concerned about head issues... did it overheat ever? Any indicator lights on? Check the areas work on, did you get oil in a connector? Or is a wire moved and on the exhaust or pinched by a panel... if it's running and randomly not without catastrophic issues it's probably something very simple your over looking. Start by re tracing every step you went thru during the first repair and work from there. Good luck 👍
