Default CBR 600RR VS 93' Katana Comparison

Hi, so for the past six months or so I've been riding around on my dad's 93's Suzuki Katana 600. Definitely been a joy and awesome learning experience but I'm curious as to how closely it compares acceleration and speed wise to the newer 600 sports bikes, more specifically the 600RR. I know there will be some differences already because of fuel injection, but how much a power difference will I be looking at?

i had a 1991 katana, streetfighter (check my albums for pix), i bought an 07 600rr this march. There is no comparison to power differences lol.....its stupid how much faster the rr is, my katana would mearly dream of power wheely's, while my rr cant keep the front wheel down...not to mention the extra 4000 rpms, huge weight difference and i cant remember hp differences but they r quite substantial as well, im used to the rr now so it doesnt seem quite as fast..but i can remember my first few weeks on it, it seemed so scary fast that i thought id never put it to the red line...i was wrong..but needless to say its stupid fast..has no prob keeping up with my friends 04 zx10r and he is piped, intaked, and pc3'd, gets me by about 5-6 bike legnths up to 140 or so...

Well the differences are going to change depending on what year RR you are looking at. I am going to assume you want a 07 because I have one so it is automatically known that is the best year . According to Bikez.com the Katana has 86HP at 11K RPM and according to motorcyclists-online.com the 2007 CBR 600RR has 118HP at 13,500 RPM so as you can see there is quite the difference in HP. The Katana is 445 LBS dry and I think the RR is 375 or somewhere in that area. So more power and less weight equals faster. I am sure you can do some research out there to get 0-60mph or 1/4mile times if you want it to be that precise. There is also a 14 year difference in technology so the brakes, suspension and clutch are going to be completely different as well not to mention the RR is FI so it will react completely different than the Katana. They really are 2 different beast and will be hard to compare because of that.

Ok I just realized it's a 98' Katana 600, but I'm assuming that still doesn't make that much of a difference. I'm not gonna lie, it's a pretty heavy bike as well. I'll probably go with the 600RR then, no need to be stupid and kill myself with a 1000RR.
