Default CAR OIL

I have a question. A friend of mine uses regular 10-40 castrol gtx on his R1. Is this ok for me to do on my 600rr, he has been using this for 2 years already and he changes the oil every 2000 miles..
Can we do that? Thanks for your help

no on sportbikes the clutch uses the same oil as the engine, and car oil is not made to be used in a clutch, not sure about the technical stuff but the answer is a definite NO, really bad idea

the bike might be okay, but unless your completely out of other options, stick with motorcycle oil

+1, special agents to aid in lubricating the clutch. Don't know how you've used it so long CBR600RRBLUE w/out smoking clutches.

I never had a problem and i put over 30,000 miles each on my previous CBRs, i have never heard of anyone burning a clutch up from using regular motor oil.

The special agents in motorcycle oil protect and reduce the mechanical wear within the bike. They are specifically made for bikes and aren't marketing hypes. You could use car oil in bikes, but they aren't designed for bikes. Just like you could use 87 instead of 93 on highly tuned engines, it'll work... just not recommended.

And where do you guys buy all your motorcycle specific oil? From the stealerships? Or online source?? I'm searching for the best & cheapest & easiest to access source.

Do any of the auto parts shops carry motorcycle oil? Wal-Mart? Never looked.

Thanks!

I doubt large retail stores cary anything motorcycle related. I get my oil from cyclegear. like 8 bucks for oil filter and about 15 bucks for a gallon of oil.
