Well, its not that I dont want to put some miles on the bike, its just that I only have a permit.
how exactly does that diminish what milage you can put on durring daylight hours?

You must be within sight of another licensed motorcyclist in order to ride with the permit. Hopefully some guys from work will come over this weekend so I can ride.

That is Michigan my friend! The extra eyes are to point out the pot holes as you can only process so many per mile.

My MSF course isnt until July so I will be lucky to get 100 miles in a month.
I'm glad to see that your going to take an MSF course they are good. You don't have to wait to ride that thing, put some miles under your belt. Just don't go out and be a jackass about it, especially if it's your first bike.
I disagree. If you have absolutely no riding experience, chances are good you are going to drop the bike, even if it's a simple standstill.

If you're going to drop a bike, drop the MSF course bike, not your brand new-to-you CBR. You'll cry. Stay off it until the you're done with the MSF.

Thanks for your input Ninjaharhar. Dropping my new 07 CBR would suck! I took the bike out again and it was great. I was more comfortable and was able to make some nice turns from a stop. MyATV experience has paid off as shifting is natural to me. One less thing I have to worry about. I'm not going to attempt a U-turn without using my feet until I'm done with the MSF. Until then, its walkie time.

Bike now has 3 miles on it!!!!

that law about riding near a buddy has got to be just about the 2nd stupidest law i have ever heard.... the first one being ban on removable magazines in cali... ( rifles must have fixed mag.s...[sm=dontgetit.gif].....) but you really might want to just sideline that bike till your done with the course, you can wash it everyday though, and get a some parts for it and take of the stickers whilie you wait, than just put it in your driveway, open the garage and put some tools next to it and stand there and look cool like your working on it and see how many people drowl as they drive by.

LOL. Yeah, I'll just pose on it in the driveway. Better yet, I'll wash it in a Speedo! In all seriousness I like taking it around the block just to get used to the clutch. I will be waiting until I finish the MSF before I hit any major roadways though. I just hope taking 1 to 2 mile trips on a new bike is not hurting the break-in. Maybe I should wait until I can put more milage on it before I start it up.

1-2 mile rides will most deff not hurt it , just make sure you let it warm up b4 you go out, about 120 degrees will be good. when i 1st got my bike ( i had already gone through the msf had my m1 and had some dirt bike exp.) and i said im just going to take it around the block... rode it around my apt. complex to get the feel of the clucth and than 30 miles later, i came home.... so what im saying is you may not be able to restrain yourself.

Well, 3 trips so far, each at about 1 to 2 miles. My course doesnt start until July 5th which is a real bummer. I can see it getting tough to resist taking it farther. Also, I wonder how long the gas will last. Maybe I should stabil it if its going to be 3 more weeks before I fill it up.

Thanks!
