Brake lockup Help!
hey guys, i just recently bought this 2013 cbr600rr and on the way home from the guys house the bikes front brakes locked up on me three times, the last time we got a trailer and brought it home. after coming home i took the calipers off and noticed the pistons had alot of crud on them which looked like it was stopping them from sitting all the way in the caliper. i cleaned them up and bled the lines and put it back together thinking we were good to go. i rode it around the neighborhood a couple times with no problems.... today i figured i would go a little further. made it about 3 miles away and the front did the same thing. 40 to 0 stupid fast. the brake lever each time this happens can not even slightly budge from the full out position. whenever it cools down you can move the bike again. normally after 15 minutes. i need some help please guys. i looked in the forums prior to posting and have been looking for a while now hoping i dont have to spend 550 on new calipers. any ideas help. thank you
hey guys, just thought id mention before the thread gets replies and i waste your time. i found these levers on youtube linked to lots of accidents becuase of exactly what has been happening to me. they are off the bike right now and i ordered new ones. not even gona move it in the garage till they come.
Hello Curt,
In general the working principle of brakes is very simple.
If you have locking up brakes it generally comes from old brake fluid or dirty brake calipers.
On my bike it was the very first thing to overhaul, altough not much was wrong with it.
I cleaned the brake calipers, used special brake caliper grease and then replaced all the brakefluid.
This is has been so far always a successfull approach. Also for my three BMW's I have had which are generally equiped with crappy brakes...

thank you for the reply, i did clean the brakes and everything was apart and fixed up and i still had the problem, i put new levers on the bike from crg vs the MZS ones from amazon on there and that fixed the problem completely. the part in the cheaper brake lever was stuck and would hold down a slight pressure on the master cylinder causing the brakes to heat up and lock up, i havent had the problem in 100 miles yet with the new levers
