Depending on the pipe, will be lighter and give off less heat. Any aftermarket exhaust will add some power, but you'll need something like a power commander to really optimize it.

The first mod I did to my 05 600RR was install a RS-5 slip on system.
Its a pretty easy job to do, the hardest part of the job was figuring out how to remove the fairings and associated parts.
Once you figre that out which isnt too hard its just a case of bolting on the new exhaust.
Just be careful with the exhaust gasket where the stock pipe bolts onto the catalytic converter. When I removed the stock pipe from the cat converter it was a bloody tight fit and sort of squashed the exhaust gasket. I still managed to salvage the gasket to use on the yoshi.
Just take your time and have a mate handy if possible and that RS-5 will be on in no time

A slip-on pipe will give a minor boost in HP and a Power Commander will not boost the HP much either, but even out the air fuel ratio that you screwed up by adding the slip-on. Some people have very sensitive *** dynos and say they can notice the difference, but in reality, the difference is undetectable...get the slip-on you think sounds the best, because sound is the only element that will be noticeably different...

A full system and the PCIII will add more HP if you have the cash to blow, but if you're not planning on racing its a costly unnecessary modification.

Just my opinion...

I just installed my new rs-5 slip on stainless steal tonight..Took less than an hour even with puttin on my new turn signals. The sound difference is awesome. Glad i went with the yosh. The new pipe is a lot lighter than the stock one and the sound and looks made my orange rr look and sound soo much better. Even all my friends couldnt believe it was me comin. Good choice in pipe. Take care
