Default 600 mile service

Ok I am getting close to the 600 mile service. My question is if it is worth taking her to the dealer to get this done or should I do it? What does the service include besides the oil change? How much does it cost? I want you guys to know that this is my first bike and have no experience at all doing oil changes but If is not worth taking it to the dealer i'll figure out the way to do it.

Thanks

I hate to say it but:::: Take it to the dealer and have them do the 600 mile service. It's a b*&^%^ to change the oil on these things. Also, they'll go over the bike to make sure it is breaking in right. Runs bout $100 bucks. (I make my dealer do it for free after purchase of new bike). This is my third Honda and I swear by it. My 2005 VTX1300 has 9000 miles without a single hiccup. Same with my 2006 CBR600RR. 1400 miles and flawless.

I'm gonna have to disagree... I would do the maintenance yourself. the first time I changed the oil, it took me about an hour. In fact, the oil filter was insanely difficult to get off and other people will say the same but other than that you should definitely do it yourself. You will just have to get a small oil filter wrench I mean its your bike. you should want to do it and it only cost about 20 bucks

You should not underestimate the experience and knowledge of genuine service staff. Honda staff are trained to do this, and has been doing it for a long time. Its not just simply about changing oil and filter. For you own piece of mind and safty, take it to the dealer.
Isn't the 600 mile service for free in the US? In Dubai it is. I already done mine, and next week I am sending it for the 3100 mile service, which will cost a 100$. As they told me the first time, the 3100 mile service is a major service and not like the 600 mile.
Oh, they also washed the bike

I just got mine back from the 600 mile service= $85. I would go to the dealer for this service, then do it on my own.

I'm planning on taking mine in for the first service. But later on, I will be DIY. I can usually do a better job of taking care of my equipment than any dealer. I'm slower, but I take great pains to be careful. They need to do that headset bearings & take a look at all nuts & bolts for a new machine, this takes at least 1 special tool I don't have. So they'll do the first, I'll take it from there.

I may even do my own oil change this first time too, and just let them look over the headset & nuts & bolts.

i brought mine in for the first service and regret it. i just did my second service on my own....sure it took me a while (b/c it was the first time and i wasn't use to it). i've never done an oil change before (car or bike)....and i can honestly say its not that hard. i'm sure future oil changes will be a breeze.

save yourself some $$$ and get better aquinted with your bike. on my first service...i was charged $145 for parts and labor. they changed the oil, lubed the chain, and "looked things over"......all of which is simple to do.
