i went to look at this 05 cbr600rr today, it had damage to most of the plastic on the left side of the bike. the owner said that a freind spun it out of controll when taking off. the side plastic covering the engine had parrellel scrapes, the round cover on the engine was scraped. the rear fender were the vent is was cracked. and the top corner of the tank was scratched, probebly dented. the guy told me the gas tank is actually coverd and that its just plastic on the out side and a metal tank on the inside? is that true?
how much would all this plastic be to replace? the bike seem to shift fine through the gears, it was the third street bike iv ridden in my life, i grew up riding dirt bikes, so i know how those feel and handle, but very unsure of what the cbr was supose to be like. it felt like it wanted to fall over on slow turns. when i went for a slow left turn, the handle bars would want to cut to the left fast, id have to fight it. is that normal on these street bikes? the last street bike i road was a few years ago and it did the same thing. it was a 750 bmw. it was a sit up right kind of bike, not so agressive as a buttle bike is, but it had the same slow turn feeling. totaly different then a dirt bike in a slow turn.
the bike has like 3700 miles on it, what can u usually get out of a rear and front tire? 10k? before replacing?
the bike seems way nice, and its an 05 but needs some repair of plastic. well dosent really need it for riding, just looks ugly up close.
what things can u guys tell me about this bike? any known problems? highlights? down sides?
is the price right?
thanks,
Brian..

To answer your first question, yes. The plastic tank is just a cover. Underneath is the gas tank and air box. Second, to replace all the plastics can get expensive, thats what eBay is for. You can always find full fairings (cheap ones) for around $400, or you can usually take your time and browse eBay for used ones in good shape.
And yes, its normal for these bikes to sort of "fall" in the corners, though its extremely difficult to describe how they should really feel. Does it ride straight? Meaning if you are going, say 35-40 mph in 6th gear, does it ride straight or pull to one side or the other?
No, you arent going to get 10,000 miles (safely anyway) out of the tires. They usually last about 5,000-8,000 miles with sane riding, more towards the 5,000 mile mark if you ride spiritedly. I usually get about 5,000-6,000 out of Dunlop Qualifiers.
As for the price, what was he selling it for? I think you forgot to mention it.
Hope this helps.

If you could get it for $4500, that would be a great deal (granted it rides straight and true).
And it's funny that you posted those fairings. Those were the exact ones I wanted to buy for my 06 when I had it. Just to let you know though that they're cheap. They don't always fit right, so there's places that you might have gaps and misalignment's. If it were me, I would search endlessly on eBay buying used OEM replacement fairings. Even if you have to buy one piece at a time, you are better off quality wise.

here is the bike add with pictures, what do you guys think? honistly it would really only need the front plastics around the head lights. the rest isent really to bad. and the directional switch is functional, but loos.
well if he will take $4500. i may just go for it. then post some pics up later..
these are for sure sweet bikes
im way excited..
