1st track day with the 600RR!
I have had my RR for about two months now and have been just loving it! Registered for a couple track days and had the first one yesterday!
Roebling Road Raceway in Georgia. This was my first time to the track, my first time with the 600RR on the track, and my first time using 208 GPA tires with warmers, so there were a LOT of variables! I had registered for the Green (intermediate) group since this was my first time there, but went ahead and bumped up to Red (Advanced) in the morning at registration and I am glad I did.
Forgot to plug in my tire warmers before the rider meeting, so the first couple laps were a bit sketchy since:
1. I did not know the track yet!
2. Tires were not up to temp for two laps.
I just kinda tried to stay out of the way for a few laps and once I felt the tires coming in I started to speed up progressively. I discovered pretty damned fast that the track diagram does not show just how tricky the track really is and it seems like most of the corners there really take some finesse to get through clean and fast. I started really ripping after lunch and had the video camera on board at one point, but really, the last two sessions of the day is when everything started clicking big time! My lap times came down a couple more seconds and I was trusting the tires more and more. I did my share of passing and also had my *** handed to me a few times as well buy a few guys due to either faster bike and/or bigger ballz than me! I got passed at one point by a new Ducati 1098S while I was accellerating at around 140mph and he blew by me like I had it in reverse! Really makes you appreciate the power limitations of a 600, but I never had to worry about overpowering the tires either. There were also a couple guys there on BMW's that were the class of the whole damned place. I mean, those guys were flat out hauling ***! I have them on my video footage going by me and just sailing the hell out of site! Unbelieveable!
All in all, a great day at the track and a lot of learning experiences with a new bike!!!
1. Underpowered, but that part is ok! I KNOW it can't hang with 1000's anyways and I did not buy it for that!
2. Forks. Springs are weak for my weight and I need to get some springs ordered! I was chattering the front later in the day when I was pushing it due to the suspension being compressed. The rear is ok, but the forks NEED springs!
3. Track oriented tires ROCK! Previously, I had used Qualifiers, but these GPA's stuck like glue! Never a slip all day long!
4. Tire warmers are the way to go!
Waiting for the photographer to get his stuff loaded, but here are these two shots for now.......

Tape is so if you crash, lens parts don't go everywhere!
215? I would most definately look into springs soon if you plan on pushing the bike any. If you are not a fast rider then I would not worry about it for a while.
The biggest gains for a bike are:
1. Riding schools, and:
2. Suspension upgrades.
All the rest is just icing on the cake.
