03 CBR rough idle and rough running
My bike is a 03 600rr, 100% stock with 6k miles. The past two times i've got to crank it up it will not idle without being on the throttle. Even when you are the throttle it runs very rough. Its never had a problem running rough, it just started one day when i went to crank it up. I know it could be a number or sensors on the bike. Is there any way to diagnos the problem without just having to just start replacing sensors? any help would be great! Thanks in advance, Jim

Thanks for the advice however, wouldn't fouled plugs be a problem that would manifest itself over time gradually over time, rather then a problem that would just pop up out of the blue one day when you go to start it up. NGK plugs are a great recomendation though, i'll check that out when i have time. Keep the ideas coming!

100% sure the bike isn't modded, no power commander or anything to mess with the A/F ratio. I will stop by the dealer and pick up some plugs tommarow after work and see if that fixes anything. Any tips on swapping out those plugs? I've done it a million times on many differnt cars but, never a bike.

before you buy new plugs, just take a couple out and inspect them before you buy new ones. No sense in buying them if that's not a problem. I also know that the 2003 600RR's have faulty voltage regulators/rectifiers, but that shouldn't be a problem when starting up the bike. I'd also check to see if your idle has been tampered with. The idle changer is located on the left side of the bike, right above shifter, sitting on top of a radiator hose. Should be about 1300-1400 +/-100rpm. They changed the idle speed to 1400 in the 2004 models. Wouldn't hurt to run some stp stuff in the tank.

RE: 03 CBR rough idle and rough running
My bike did something rather similar after a tank of dirty gas (gas station flooded with mud and water the night before and failed to warn anyone). Bike wouldn't start at first, and when it did, it ran like crap. Took it to my dealer and had them drain the tank and flush the system out (which I made the gas station pay for, and they did.....eventually). Filled it with new gas and it's been fine since.
Hard to pin point a problem without hearing it, but is it just running rough or is it sputtering?
