Default Using toggle switch for Leds

Anyone have any suggestions on the best way to install LED lights to a toggle switch. I tried to install the toggle switch and the lights came on no problem...but when I switched the toggle to the off position it blew my fuse.

The wires are running from the license plate light(On with ignition) to the toggle switch to the LED lights.
What am I forgetting or doing wrong?

check your wiring, it sounds like something is shorting out. When you turn the key on and off, does that also make hte fuse blow? or just when you turn off the switch?

How many posts does your switch have? You only need a 2 post (@ 12v of course), then run constant power to the leds and switch on the ground side of the led's. If you have a 3 or 6 post, then you just need to use it as an inline, just like a 2 post. Hope this helps. BTW it's always better to put the circut on a negative pulse vs positive.

I have a 2-post toggle switch. I'm running wires from the rear Licensece plate wires to the toggle switch. From there I have 2-pair of led lights each hooked up, both positive wires from each LED is connected together and then connected to the positive (On) post. The negative wires are hooked up in similar fashion and connected to the negative (off) post.

When I turn the bike on, the LEDS automatically come on. When I turn the bike on and then off, they come on and off no problem.
But when I engage the toggle switch into the On-position it blows a fuse immediately. I switched the polarity so the lights would be off when the bike is turned on. When I hit the toggle switch (on) It blows immediately.
The lights do come on when they are hooked up to the toggle switch in the (off) position
What am I doing wrong?

I want the lights to come on when I hit the toggle switch...Is there a better way to hook up these lights...(Maybe not to the license plate light?)
Do I need a relay.?

Ok heres your problem. You are creating a short circuit when you turn the switch on. What you want to do is this. Connect the negative wire from the back of your bike to one post of the swtich. Connect the other post of the switch to the shortleg (negative side I belive)of BOTH the LED's (or use wire to connect them to the switch, either way is fine). Next, connect the long legs to the positive wire from the back of the bike. Problem should be solved then.

With yoru current setup, when you turn the switch on, the power is going from the negative lead right to teh postive lead and shorting out. You dont want to wire the led's across the swtich, you want to wire them inline with it. If you have any more questions let me know.
