Default too good to be true?

Hi,
I recently saw an ad for an all stock 2000 F4 with 2400 miles on it selling for $5400.
-Is this a good deal?
-What's acceptable with regards to how many miles a bike should have.
-Is asking for the VIN acceptable?
-What else can I do to protect myself?
I'd appreciate any tips or feedback.

Thanks!

Sounds right. I purchased mine this summer. 2000 F4 3,200 miles. $5,200.00

Brand new tires I mad them put on, and not 1 single blemish on the bike.

Very low miles, Hell it has sat almost its whole life. I put 1k miles on my bike last month and only got to ride it about 3 weeks. I am taking this is your first bike? I would bring someone with you that knows bikes and have them look at it, and maybe ride it if the person will let you.

I bought my 00 F4 for $2500 with 12k miles and it was wrecked. I fixed everything for less then $1k. Of sourse is wasnt really wrecked very bad mostly cosmetic.

I think thats about the average price with that low of miles. these bikes can run for along time as long as the maintaince is kept up on them.

To protect yourself wear gear when you ride [sm=smiley20.gif]

I purchased my bike on 8/6/06 with 3,120 miles on it. Now it is 11/01/06 and I have 11,509 miles on the odo. So that is what? 9 weeks? That is 932.11 miles per week! Now she has to set for a week while I get a valve cover gasket ordered tomorrow. I put as many miles on a bike in a week, as some do in a season. Mind you also we have had more rain this year than several years in the past. RIDE IT OR SELL IT!

[sm=icon_cheers.gif] couldnt have said it better myself. Wish I could ride that much, but with work, school, and my daughter not even 2 yet....its hard to find the free time to get her out as much as i want too.

The 00F4 with 2400 miles averages about 400 miles a year.....That bike has sat ALOT!

I wouldnt. Bikes with that low of miles is almost as bad as too high miles. If it has been sitting around too much (which it obviously has) then you will have to replace all fluids, battery, and tires MINIMUM! That could cost you $700+.

I'd rather find a nice, hardly used, 10k mile bike for much cheaper.

EDIT:: Oh, i purchased my 1999 with 8k miles for $3,700. Slight sractches on one side.

Well, since the Honda shop done this as an agreement before purchase (tires, fluids, etc...) I think it was OK. I do get to take mine to work. I drive 54 miles one way. Day shift 7-4. So 108 miles just to work and back, not including an hour to play during lunch!

You can change all the fluids yourself, change the plugs, and just have them put new tires on....if it doesnt allready have them.

Dont buy it to just stare at like so many people do. There are 6 guys on my street with bikes, and only 2 of us including me get our bikes out more then once a month. hell one guy has a harley with a 350.....but i have never saw it leave his garage?

Thanks again for all your input... I was also looking at another bike with similar specs but Flip's comment sounds like I might have to do all of that. anyone else agree?

I expect to do all those maitenence items anyhow, so to me it doesn't matter. Many times, a seller will tell me what he has all done to maintain the bike, I still go home and do it all again to meet my standards. I would go with the low mileage bike myself. JMHO
