Default Timing Advancer

Hey guys, I searched around to find my answer, but could only really find information relating to the 929/954, which i believe are FI bikes. Does anyone have any experience using a timing advancer on an f4? I am looking for a bit more midrange and more throttle response. I just bought a jet kit but havent installed it becuase im not sure thats my problem. My bike doesnt run hot or have any real flat spots. Its a bit down on power at 4-5k, but its not very noticeable. My bike also runs very strong in the top end, and is dead even with my friends f4i with pipe/powercommander. I am going to get the bike put on the dyno and get a readout of the Air/Fuel ratio and go from there with the jet kit. What is a good a/f ratio to have?

Thanks for any info you guys can give!

There may be one for that bike. I know you can buy them for the 900RR. It's not FI related. If you look hard enough you can probably find an advancer for that bike.

As for the A/F ratio......if the guy running the dyno doesnt know i would take it to another shop. 13.9 seems about right.

+1 Gixxereater. There are advancers out there for the F4, 4 degrees advance. Have you thought about sprocket ratios? I run the 520 conversion -1/+2, and that brought my mid to life.

I know they make them, I was trying to get some opinions on them. I think factory pro and a few others make then in a -2*, +2*, +4* and even +6*. Considering you can use 87 octane no problem in a stock f4, I was thinking that a few degrees of timing cant hurt. At the most you would just have to run a higher octane gas. If it gave me better throttle response and midrange Iwould gladly pay the extra cost per gallon.

Sprockets are on my to do list as I need a new chain anyway. Im still debating on just-1, or -1 +2 or maybe ill go halfway and do -1+1. What is your top speed with a-1+2 setup? Or, do you know what rpms your at on the highway?Maybe I'll wait untill xmas time for the sproket kit,so I can get a speedcal too!

How long have you riden for? If you have riden for a long time then I think you need a 900 or maybe a 750.......If not, put that jet kit in and have it tuned right, It'll make a big difference in throttle response. It's a beautiful difference, anyways......Just make sure to keep it safe.
