Default Starting the bike at night, semi-cold...

My bike has 44k miles on it, highway. This has only happened twice when I start the bike after getting off of work at night, I know the engine is cold and when the engine dies, the Oil light comes on, the red one. The bike is a 99 600F4. Is this normal on cold starts or should I change the oil? Maybe the plugs? It takes about 3 tries to keep the engine running after I rev it. It bogs down on the cold starts without revving it. Let me know plz?!!

Oil light should always come on when the ignition is on, but the bike is not running. It is not a problem that you are experiencing at all. It is normal.

If the red light should be on when the key is on the ON position, is there something wrong with my panel? It only comes on when the bike dies out, but thats only sometimes.

The red oil light should always be on when the key is set to "ON" and the bike is not running.

Do you have any ideas as to what might be wrong?

Are you using the choke to start it?

As long as it is not giving you any problems, I wouldn't worry about it. You still should change the oil and filter just to get something fresh in there.

I am not using the choke to start it, when I push the choke up it dies out. Also there is a little circle wheel button located on the right side of the bike that spins around, you can pull it but I don't know what its for any ideas?

When the bike is cold, you should use the choke. Pull it on all the way towards you, then start the bike. Let the bike idle around 3,000 rpm's for about 20-30 seconds, then slowly release it to off, until the bike runs on its own.

As for the wheel thing, I have no idea what you are describing. Where exactly is it located, and is there any way you can post a pic of it.

Note that it's not if the temperature of the air is cold, it's if the bikes temp guage shows it as cold. So if it has not been running it is considered cold. So even if it's a blistering hot day you should use the choke to start the bike if it hasn't been running. Where as if you had turned off the bike 5 mins ago and when you turn the key to 'on' the temp guage rises and shows the engine as warm and still around operating temperature, then there is no need to use the choke. Hope that clears things up for people who may get confused

Also i'm curious about this button on the right of your bike that spins and you can pull. Is there any chance you could give a little more detail as to where it is, because i'm a little perplexed [&:] because I don't know of anything like that.
Is it around the handle bars or on the actual side of the bike at the back or front?
