Default say it aint so

hey guys,
little bad news, tonight when i was riding the bike home from work it started acting up on me. it was really jerky, i looked down at the gauges and the tach and the speedo were both bouncing around. the lights started to dim and she died on me. i tried to start it again but it didnt even make a click. its probably the battery and my own fault, i put it in the bike without charging it all winter. it started right up and i didnt think anything of it. just looking for reassurance that its the battery i'll try to get it charged up tomorrow and see if that works. pinball some ideas for me!

Sound like that batt. Other than that check your wiring harness. look at the connections see if anything is melted. Now would be a good time to pack the connections with dielectric grease.

+1 to CJ Most problems like you are describing turn out to be electrical connections
and/or components. Through inspection of the harness is a good starting place and
is never a waste of time.

I am a automotive mech, so maybe I'm off, but once the bike is running shouldn't it be charging the battery? Or does the alternator/stator only output enough to sustain a charged battery?

Because my thought was a bad stator, not charging the battery. So yes the battery is dead, but because it wasn't getting juiced back up.

hey guys thanks for the quick replies

didnt have time to look at it last night. got around to it today after class
turns out it was just a loose connection on the positive side. The battery is fine after all, started her up and cruised around for a half hour...(showing off the the college girls )

Edit: glad it just turned out to be a loose connection
