Default Rear Tire Hugger... good or crapola?

I'm looking at rear tire huggers for my F4... I have seen the ones that replace the chain guard and mount as one piece.. but I saw these on fleabay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Rear-...item3cb558e79f

I'm going to go outside and look at the rear of my bike to get some kind of idea where that mounts, but it looks (to me) more along the lines of the 600RR and 1000RR setup... and its pretty inexpensive at $30 shipped (as long as its good)

Thanks

I've been kicking around whether or not to get a tire hugger. I had hotbodies hugger when I bought the bike but ended up selling it. It was color matched to the bike, but it just looked out of place and just made the bike look too plastic.

Im thinking of getting a carbon fiber hugger, but those do not come cheap. I think someone on here just got one and posted some pictures not too long ago.

I'm not so sure this will work w/ an F4. Looking at the screw holes, the L side might line up but there's no holes in the swingarm for the front or R side holes on the hugger. Additionally, the R side mounting hole looks like it would interfere w/ the rear brake line/clamp. Some huggers require you to drill & tap holes for installation.

I've seen the integral chain guard huggers but the usual fault of those type is that the molding can often be off, resulting in having to torque one of the screw mounts to keep them in the proper shape. This usually results in a crack at that screw hole.

There was a guy selling nice looking carbon fiber integral huggers on eb@y awhile back that were around $80...which seemed like a decent deal for CF, until you saw the shipping charge of $35. Haven't seen those on there in awhile tho.

I bought this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_2254wt_939

Looks similar to the one on the pictures. I will try and fit next week. Think it's a drill and tap job. Will let you know.

That didn't look like the right picture for an F4 hugger. I liked the huggers on the RR's but only because the swing arm is higher up and a small hugger can be used.

I agree with you fiddy... the RR hugger looks much better than the ones that I have seen on the F4/F4is... but so far every ebay seller I have contacted is unable to show me any installed pictures or installation instructions...

the hugger you posted picture of is for the RR.
I have the one with chain guard built in, and it looks great. painted it to match the tri-color and it looks great

I bought it used off an F4i and it already had the holes drilled, though 2 were elongated. either way it fits perfect on the original screws of the chain guard and on the right side the 2 screws holding the brake line clamps.

you will have to replace the chain guard bolts for a standard M5 bolts because the original have a thicker shank before the thread that fits inside the thicker guard but the thinner hugger (fiberglass) will vibrate if you actually increase the diameter of the holes.
it's not an issue. it will be clearer once you look at it.

I hope you'll all forgive me an ignorant question (I have lots of those!):

Is there a particular function expected from the huggers, or is it purely a matter of aesthetics? I like the aesthetics, mind you; just wondering. Thanks.
