Problem with gear lever adjustment
I've just bought myself my first bike, a CBR600 F4. Taking it easy at first as I know it's a powerful bike.
When I bought the bike I bought it from a small French girl. The gear lever position was fine when I tried the bike with trainers on, but my boots are a whole different story and I couldn't unclip safely and comfortably from the under the gear lever. Safety is important for me and I'm planning on riding all the time with my boots on, so getting the right height is important.
I first tried loosening the lock-nuts (circled in purple) and rotating the bar sufficiently, but when I hopped onto the bike and tested it out, the bike got stuck in neutral when I tried shifting from 1st gear and all I got was a fist-full of throttle.
Since the bar was nearly at the end of it's thread, I popped it off and rotated the knuckle (red) a little clockwise. I am still finding that the bike gets stuck in neutral when the gear lever is in the position in the picture, but if I adjust it slightly down, I can move through all 6 gears (albeit uncomfortably).
I don't really have enough experience to know what the issue is. I thought just rotating the linkage bar shouldn't do anything other than alter the gear lever height.
Any thoughts?
EDIT: There don't seem to be any obstructions this the lever set in this position.

If i were you, and this might not fix it, but it'd be worth a try due to the effects of leverage, is...
Screw the shift rod all the way in, so that there aren't any threads showing. Then adjust where the shifter clamps onto the output shaft from the engine. Ideally you would want the clamping part to be as perpendicular to the ground as possible.

When I try this, I can get into first gear and then into neutral if I click up hard, but this is it. I can't get into any higher gears. I'm going to fiddle around a few more variations and see what happens.
