Pitted forks replacement
Hi all,
Put my bike in to have fork seals replaced and as suspected, forks are pitted(Last owner stored it outside poorly)
I could have them rechromed,I cant find any used 99/2000 F4 forks.
I read in usefull links F4i forks can be used and are easier to find.
Do i need the axle/rotors/wheel etc or i can use existing F4 stuff on F4i forks?
thanks in advance
Paul

F4i forks are a direct swap. Although the F4i forks have minor dif internally, they are externally the same. You can run them on your F4 w/o any problem.
In fact, I have a spare pair of F4i forks that I've been using on my F4 til I could service my F4 forks (new dust & oil seals). I just rebuilt my F4 forks on Tue night & re-installed them.
All you need to do is pull off your F4 forks & install the F4i forks. You don't need anything else. All of your other stock F4 components stay the same. They'll slip right into your triples & you're good to go.

Curious... How badly are your fork tubes pitted? Is it possible to sand the tubes to smooth out? Or, are they just too badly pitted to do this. Reason I ask is b/c small pits can be rough sanded w/ grits of sandpaper down to emory cloth to still make them serviceable. If they are beyond that repair, then by all means go for the F4i forks.

they forks were pretty shot.Looked like chunks of chrome missing.I have found some tarozzi (tubes only at a reasonable price).Every wrecking yard i rang just didnt have forks. When i questioned why they dont have them, they are such a common bike, they asked me the same thing.lol.
the tubes are same length diameter etc between 01 F4i and 99 F4.
