Oil selection help 2000 cbr600 f4
ok so i just bought a f4 from out of town.love the bike so far but i do have a question
i asked the guy what kind of oil he was running he said he didnt know he only had the bike 2 months.
so i did an oil change today .
i bought bel-ray E X L 20W-50
thats what i ran in my 95 f3
now i am hearing i pinging noise in the front of my motor that was never there before i changed the oil.
any solutions?
should i go with a full synthetic

Put 10w-40 in there, your choice as far as mineral or synthetic since the last guy had no clue and you put 20w-50 in there you can buy some rotella-t and some seafoam. Put both in there ride around for about 100 mi, make sure your keeping a close eye on the sight glass, and than change your oil again with what ever you want to put in there and a fresh filter. That will really help your engine clean itself out.
Remember that thicker oil is not better, you want thinner oil. And oil is oil is oil, what tour paying for is the detergents and additives. Buy motorcycle oil and just because it the most expensive oil does not mean its the best for your bike. I have a link in my Sig that has a lot of info on oil.
The pinging can come from the wrong oil. Not always but it can go away.

A little out of date, but I've run both Rotella T synthetic 5W40, and Renewable Lube's (aka RLI) Bio-Synthetic 5W40HD. They both worked acceptably. The RLI really looked excellent in analysis despite quite a bit of fuel dilution after the ~8,000-mile run (that's the Honda-specified oil change interval, though I probably wouldn't run most oils that long, and wouldn't run any without analysis to support). So, I still run the RLI. I have probably 2/3 of my last 5-gallon bucket left.
