Hey everyone, I just have a few questions about my bike. I bought it last week and keep noticing things that seem out of place/missing/just don't look right. My first operation will be replacing the chain and sprockets. I just ordered them yesterday, so that will probably start next week. The bike's at 25.5k right now.

I noticed there are a couple of tubes hanging out of the bottom that seem to be dripping gas? (I'm pretty sure it's gas)

Also, I'm missing the bolt to my clutch lever. It works fine without it, but I think it would put me at ease to have it in there. Any idea where I could get a replacement? I also have an aftermarket clutch lever that might go on later.


Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm also completely new to motorcycles, so I'm not sure what routine maintenance I need to take care of aside from the chain, oil changes, and a few other things I've looked up. What are some common things new riders often neglect/miss?

 

Those hoses connect to your fuel tank and are supposed to vent out to the atmosphere like that; however they should only leak fuel if something is up with the bike. Is there a fuel smell around the hoses or is it actual fluid with a puddle forming if the bike sits?

That screw is needed to retain the clutch lever and I would recommend sorcing a replacement on ebay or honda4u.com

The F4 and it engine are strong and reliable as long as you keep up to date the general maintenance. Here is a service interval list, it breaks the different mileage markers down into a checklist and eventually will have the step by step procedures of each maintenance item. I just noticed one little drop at the end of the tube, and the fumes. I noticed there was something on the ground the next morning, but I wouldn't describe it as a puddle, more of a tiny damp spot, like a few drops of gas. I would think gasoline would evaporate faster than that, but I'm not sure. I'll take a look at it in the morning. Hypothetically, if something was going wrong, what kind of problems might it be?

 

By the look of the photo the moisture seems to be coming from outside the hose.

 

If for some reason that clutch lever pops out and you can't get it back in the slot as you're approaching a stop you will not be able to shift into neutral. That could be a bad situation. I would at the very least throw a zip tie in there until you can get a proper bolt. As for locating the bolt if it is an OEM lever I would look it up through a local dealer it shouldn't cost much. Otherwise I would throw your new lover on there ASAP.

 

Also if that's the overflow from the tank are you potentially topping it off too much and just spilling over into the tube?

Well, in all honesty, I'm putting the bike out of commission till I can change out the chain. It's just way too loose to ride safely, and while I have it in my friend's garage, I'll be sure to get that bolt in, and clean up whatever else I can while I have some parts off. I'll be checking the 24k maintenance schedule just to double check something the previous owner may have missed.

I had driven at least 50 miles since I had filled the tank when I noticed it, so I don't think it would still be dripping if I did somehow overfill it.

Another question about my stands. I got them from the guy I bought the bike from, but can't seem to figure out where to lift up the bike from.

There's nowhere to attach swingarm spools...


And I just don't know where they go on in the front.


I feel like I'm missing something and it shouldn't be that difficult...

There really isn't a "place" to put spools on these bikes, that being said people have found ways to do it, my stands I have , have the little rubber pads that go under the swing arm and the frount forks that works great for my uses. Do a search for them and it should turn up a few leads
