Default New Engine vs Fixing Existing Transmission

What's up guys, I need some help on my next course of action.
My bike was popping out of third gear and I don't feel like paying the shop to fix it.
I'm just about to finish up removing my engine.

Which do yinz think is the better way to go.

1.) Keep my engine (~18,000 miles)that I know is good and split the case and fix the transmission myself
Guessing around $300 in parts
or

2.) Buy a new engine that I know nothing about?
Got a lead on a local engine that needs a fly wheel. (11,000 miles)
Also know of a completeengine about 6 hours away, in the pics its very clean. (<10,000 miles)
Roughly $500 for either engine.

Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks in advance

If I were you I would definatly repair your transmission, you know what you have, If you buy one of the used engine and do not completly tear it down first you could run into the same problem. My bike only has 14,000 miles (F4) and it pops out of 2nd gear, but it doesnt bother me I dont ride hard at all. Just letting you know it doesnt really matter how many miles on the engine depend's on how it was rode.

Just my opinion

I say keep your engine and fix the trans. My bike has over 29K and has only poped out of gear like 2 or 3 times. The F4 trans is the biggest down fall of the bike. Brand new they had the 1-2 gear shift problem that I deal with all the time. I the reviews I read that was about the only bad remarks the bike got. At high RPM's the bike does not want to go into second gear half the time.

personally what i would do is buy one of the other engines and throw that sucker in. then work on your trans in the mean time. it never hurts to have a back up motor in my opinion.
