need help with HID install
So i got my HID kit over the weekend, got around today to taking a deeper look into it and trying to install but have some questions:
It came with a black plastic adapter piece that actually snaps into the factory black socket.
It had 3 little silver tabs that you snapped into place on the adapter which are the prongs that plug into the factory socket.
On the HID wiring there is two wires coming out one black one red and they have two little silver tab thingys on the end of the wires....
I cant figure out where im suppose to put those two wires.. and what do i do since there is actually 3 prongs...
Kind of confused.....
any help would be great guys!
Thanks

the 3-prong is the signal wire. Unfortunately for the HID ballasts, the 3-prong doesn't provide enough juice for the kit. The red and black wires with circles at the end are direct line power for the HID kit. These need to be run back the the battery. I'd suggest getting some flex-tube and running it along the side of the bike under the frame. If you take the side fairings off, you'll see the power lines that came stock with the bike; just run your flex tube along this. You'll probably need to cut the circles off and go purchase some 12-AWG wire to lengthen your run to the battery. Then once you do this, your ballast will have power but will not 'fire-up' until you turn the key and it gets signal from the 3-prong.
Just a heads-up: The F4 kills power to the headlight during starting. This is bad for the HID kit to turn on and a couple seconds later turn off for starting and then back on again. I'd suggest 2 different methods; one done by me and another by my buddy with the same bike.
1. Go to your local hardware store and buy a 2 prong toggle switch. When you are running your ground line, put the switch in between and drill a small hole in the side plastics next to the gauges for mounting. This way you can leave it off, flip the key, turn on the bike, then flip the switch on for the headlight. Quick and simple; just remember to flip that switch for your headlight when riding.
2. Get a time delay relay. I believe my buddy got a 30-second relay. Basically its the same installation as the toggle switch, however the relay will 'flip-on' after 30 seconds. Its a little more involved as it will be a 3-prong. 2 prongs for ground-in and ground-out (much like the toggle switch) and the 3rd prong for power which needs to run to a switched line like ignition. This way as soon as you turn the key the relay will start its countdown.
Additionally!
If you purchased a bi-xenon kit (meaning its one bulb that has both low and high beams) you'll need to get a spacer. The bulb itself is much longer than stock and it will scatter your beam everywhere. On the bulb itself it has your H4 base which is circular with notches. In front on the notches on that circular base, put a spacer on there. This will bring the bulb back a little and help the scatter scenario. I used a rubber o-ring I found in the plumbing aisle of my hardware store.
Let me know if you need anymore help.

Tec,
Well just read your post very informative i do appreciate it. I finally got the power figured out but now i have a huge problem.
I dont know how to actually install the bulb in the houseing. The light itself has this sliver thing that is about a half a circle around the light, kind of like a shield. But its to wide to fit through the black weather ring. Im not quite sure how to go about putting it through that so i can put it back on???

just cut the black rubber shroud and jam 'er through.
I just took a scissors and cut two opposite straight cuts down to the base. I still keeps its form but I was able to put it apart for squeezing through the bulb.
Make sure to add a o-ring spacer (or some sort) in front of that silver notched 'shield' and your beam will be more aligned.
REMEMBER: Dont touch the bulb at ALL! If you happen to touch it, get some alcohol and clean it off. Your finger grease will get hot when the bulb is turned on and cause a pop.

oh ya i know.... lol i have installed hids on my car... i know not to touchy touchy.... ill have to get around to it this weekend and cut some notches into it.
What do you recomend for the o-ring thingy... where i go about getting that? And another thing... where did you stash your ballast at? Did yours have that little metal sheild around the bulb as well??? just curious to where you ahve that facing? up,down left or right?
You been a huge help!
Thanks!

The o-ring I bought at Lowe's. Its a hardware store chain like Home Depot. It found it in the plumbing in a bag of assorted o-rings. They stretch a little so I found one that was close and put 'er on.
I stashed the ballast behind the gauges and held them against the two black bars (you'll see them if you remove the gauges) with some zip strips. Remove your windscreen and gauge cluster and you'll have plenty of room between those bars and the front fairing.
I have the shield as well. It goes on the bottom, however you can only install your light one way in the housing so it doesn't matter; its always the bottom.

ok ok... ya thats what i had figured that it went on the bottom.
Ill have to stop at lowes and get some O-rings tommorow when i go food shopping lol! so i will give it attempt again. Hopefully i can install it sunday!! Ill take your advice and remove the gauge cluster and windshield. Sounds like a great place to stash it.
One last question. It was kind of a pain to get the actually rubber piece off and im having a bit of trouble getting the black piece back on. Does it need to strech around that lip of the housing? and did you use that little metal hanger that supported the stock light in place? im assuming so.... but thought id ask!!
Thanks Again =)

well i got it all to work. =)
wasnt to bad after i put some slits in the rubber piece! Dont know why i didnt even think about doing that in the first place.
As far as the wire support thingy, i didnt put it on. it was nice and snug and i couldnt remember how that thing held the light on anyways! lol
Thanks for all the help man
