Default my cbr ran cold today....is it a problem?

Today I rode my '99in cooler weather for the first time today. It was 50 degrees while i was riding. I started the bike, i let itwarm up, the tempature needle wenthalfway up the scale(where it has normally been in warm weather), i started ridin. ten minutes in tothe ride the needle started dropping. it stayed above the c, right on the beginning of the scale. Is this normal?

I would think you might have a faulty thermostat

Yup - I've had this too... perfectly normal. It is especially noticeable in cold rain. Coming back from Ontario my gauge was barely above the first line for the majority of the trip... probably 14/15 hours like that... it only came up when I made it to Nova Scotia and that was when the sun came up again.

im not a mechanic but from ive heard gas engines run better with cooler weather, but if its cold enough the engine wont reach its normal warm temp. Still nothing wrong just means that the ambient temps cools the entire engine thru-out....

cold air yes because it's more dense but as for the engine temperature, optimally...for the best combustion efficiency the engine should maintain 195-200*. Much less than that and you're going to have more carbon build-up, less HP, and decreased fuel economy.

these engines are so small, all aluminum, and pretty much completely exposed to any cool air rushing around them that they dissipate heat so fast it's harder to keep them running hot in cool weather.
