loose steering stem

Default loose steering stem

hey, i just bought a 2000 cbrf4 and when i took my first ride i noticed that the steering stem was a little loose and shakes when the front brake is applied hard, theres no clicking or anything dramatic. can somebody run me through what i need to do to tighten it?

turn the large nut on the top of the steering stem?

You could try and tighten the steering neck down. Take the little cap off (black cap) and take off the but. There should be another one underneath it will little tabs. Lift the tabs and tighten it down some. Put the tabs back down and put it all back together. Thats really vague, but Im lazy right now. haha

What he is saying is it's a to nut set up you have to hold one and turn one. Look at the bottom of the stem and you will see what he is talking about. Remember that is also bearing in there and they could have play in them as well. Some things you can let go for a bit, but this in not one of them-fit it now.
