Default Key's

Hey all, a friend of mine had someone charge the battery on his bike a few months back while he was away on buisness. Well when he got back the other person had already moved and the key disappeared. Is there a way to get the key # from on the bike anywhere? If so where and how. It is a 2000 F4. Any help would be the greatest.

If your friend only had the one key then he's gonna have a problem. The key can be cut the same as you would a house key which is no problem. The only thing is he needs the old key to program in the new chip on the new key due to the H.I.S.S (Honda Ignition Security System). Without the old key he won't be able to do this, according to the shop where I went to get a spare key sorted for my my bike they said that if that was the case I'd have to get a new set of keys and barrel with the H.I.S.S as a set. Luckily for me I was getting a spare done and so I was not affected by this problem. Unfortunately for your friend though I think this may be the case, take a look around in case something can be done, but this was an Honda dealer that I went to which told me this. I'm a regular customer there and they know me well so I'm pretty sure they wouldn't lie to me about this so unfortunately I think this will be the case for your friend [sm=lame.gif] sorry.

im a locksmith, and a rider. most dealers have a code on file to get whats called a code cut. usually i deal with cars but they should have this info on file too. be sure to bring in your VIN# when you go in. they most likely wont cut the key... but the will give you the code to have cut at a locksmith. ordinarily, cutting the key will cost from 25 to 50 bucks or so for the first key, then its just the cost of dups. it should be on the blank ilco #x255 or hd109 (if im not mistaken).
good luck

responding to that high sec system described: i dont think it has this system on a 2000 model. it may, but i'm pretty sure it doesn't (the older years shouldnt & my '99 doesnt). when you go in and look up the vin, their system should show if it has such a high sec system or not.
i highly doubt it.... although many 2000 cars have them, it hasn't caught on until recentely.

My F-Y (2000 - european version of the 2000 F4) has H.I.S.S, if your F4 has H.I.S.S it'll say H.I.S.S around the top of the black plastic surrounding your bikes key hole for the ignition. I would have thought the F4 would have it too, surely?
