Can't you go by the vin number??? Try giving them that and they can make you another key.

can you show the process of how to get the code from the ignition switch? I'm okay with mechanic but i rather know step by step to get to it then doing the puzzle way. Well, i called around here and they can make a key for me but i have to two my bike there for them to do it. but i rather mess with the ignition switch then trail my bike there cause i don't have a trailer or a truck to do so.

Default RE: key code

I had to do take my ignition off as well. I suggest you remove the front fairing to get a good direct route to the ignition. There are star bolts that you must remove from underneath. I believe it was a 45 size that I used. I also suggest getting new bolts that are metric hex head. I didnt start out with removing the fairing and ended up almost stripping the bolts. The hex head just make it easier. I believe it was the 8mm x 1.25 25 in length. Those should do the trick.

The actual code is on the backside of the ignition where the fork lock button is. It should start with a couple letters and then a couple numbers. This is the ignition code for them to look up the actual key code by. The code is the same sequence a car is. Its either a 1,2, or 3.

I will suggest paying the extra 7 bucks and getting a factory replica. Im sure yours will also use a HD109 key blank. If they tell you its an HD108, they have an old book. The code will be right but the key wont. It will be short. Any other questions just ask. I would hate for someone to go through the same thing I JUST went through.

Hey, good lookin out guys. This forum was really helpful. I too lost my only key and thanks to jdfish, I was able to find the key code off my ignition switch. Called up the local honda shop and only had to pay 11 bucks instead of 95 from the locksmith. It was a size 40 for the star bolt (Torx Screw) though.
