Jet Kit, Yes or No?
Hey guys. I recenly aquired a dynojet jet kit for my 99 f4. My bike runs great above 7k, but is lacking a bit in power and throttle response under 5k especially. I place by me (Blackmans Cycle) said that they would install and tune the kit for 220. I would normally do all my own work, but carbs confused the hell out of me! I'm pretty happy with the bike as far as top end performance, but I am looking for a better mid range and throttle response. The bike starts right up, andidles great. It has no real problems other thenthe slight hole in power around 4-5k, and a bit of a lack of throttle response there too.Should I get the kit installed and tuned, or am I just asking for more problems then I already have?
Was there a real noticable gain though? for 220 bucks i can get a 520 kit and really get some acceleration! haha. The place I will most likely go is a dealership, and a pretty big one at that. I would hope they woudl gurantee their work!
With the K&N and jets there's an increase in power throughout the range. But it has to be tuned correctly to make it all work. However, even without the jets a tuned f4 just runs awesome. Is it worth jetting? I think it is... any increase in power is always worth it. Especially because of the power to weight ratio. Is it worth having someone install it for 220... I don't know. I learned how to do a lot of the labor myself with the factory manual and learning offgoodpeople that know more than I do about bikes. Therefore, it's been a long time since I've paid for some labor on the bike. If you had the tools and knew how to do the work, you could actually get the dynojet and the 520 convert kit for about $230 - $250. If you want a quick fix for now then go with the 520 convert kit. But leave the dynojet for "the things to do list". Hope this helped some.
I have no problem installing the kit, I just have no idea how to tune it. Are the suggested settings close or do you have to play with it for a while?? Also, the manual says to turn out the mixture screws 4 turns?? This seems like alot?
In that case, go with the settingthat dynojet suggested. Cali is 3 turns but the other 49 states and Canada might be 3 1/4 turns. 4 turns does sound really high. Once you have things installed, you need to synch your carbs. You need a carb synchronizer. I have the one from motionpro. Follow the synch instructions and you should be good. I would use the manual settings. But if your manual wants you to turn the mixture 4 turns concerns me about the specifications. I use the factory manual and it's going good for me. Buts that all you need to do. Put things back together and your ready to ride. I have dynojet and so far so good.
If you have time, type up the specs for the carb synch and I'll tell you if it's the same with the factory.

I have a carb sync tools too, though I havefour vacuum gauges (dial type).
Maybe they tell you to turn them out 4 turns because you block the main air jet? No idea.
Do you have the dynojet kit, or the factory pro?
I think the number of turns was a 3 but for California. Our emission controlsare different over here. Do you live outside of Cali? Because there are 2 versions of the jetkit, Cali and non-Cali version. The non - Cali versionshas you turning the screw 4 times, which was the link you attached. I was confused at first and got me thinking how many turnsdid I do mine. But ya, follow the dynojet instructions. Then carbsych.
The kit I got is from dynojet. The factory manual I was referring to was Honda factory service manual. Once I installed the jets and turned the mixture screw according to the dynojet specs, I used the honda specs for carb synch. I don't have the dial type carb synch so I don't have any input on that matter.
