Integrated Tail lights with Smoke case?

So I found an integrated LED brake light with the turn signals and an extra white light on the bottom for your license tag. I was about to get it but i want to get it in smoke instead of clear. I asked the retailer on ebay and he said he sold out of those and will have more when next year's models arrive. I am new to the motorcycle game, but is this how it works? like new stuff will come in the spring and once it is sold out, you have to wait for next year? I looked everywhere and cannot find a led brake light, turn signal, license plate light combo in smoke. here is the one i found: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-00...#ht_2216wt_939
this is for a 2000 Honda CBR600F4 so i wasn't sure if it would be hard to find accessories for a bike this old.

Its kind of a tough question because it just depends on who his supplier is and if (any) of the actual assembly he does.

Who knows though, he might be BSing you and you will be waiting for a long time. Ill keep my eye out and if I come across a smoked one Ill let you know.

You could always just buy a clear one and put a very light tint on it....

gotcbr 12-17-2010 06:45 PM

Find a different seller.

As for the tint, you can buy "tail light tint spray" & tint it yourself. I have seen this done w/ good results. Of course, prep is key.

Good luck w/ your search.

fwiw.. the cheaper ebay ones that I have seen are sometimes not bright at all.. my Clear Alternatives one is very bright and visible.. I know they are more money.. but the quality is evident..

tejasp 12-19-2010 12:40 PM

thanks for all the replys!
can someone give me an example of this spray that has been mentioned? if it is easy enough to spray that on, then I may use that instead. i also bought Mirrors with LED turn signals built in. It has a clear casing so it would be nice to use the spray on that as well.

also, which brand tail lights do you recommend? Turbulenz, you recommended "Clear Alternatives"? do you know where i can check those out?

tejasp 12-19-2010 12:43 PM

oh what about these covers? seems like installation of this will be easier than the spray: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...tomotive&psc=1

gotcbr 12-19-2010 05:00 PM

Sorry, don't remember the brand(s) of the tint spray. However, the car forums have all sorts of reviews on different ones. Google "tail light tint spray" & you'll find lots.

+1 for Clear Alternatives...Turb is right. Bikebandit.com, among others, carry Clear Alternatives.

As for the tint films, I don't think they will work for this application. I could be wrong, just my $ .02.

Good luck.

license plate light?

thanks gotcbr! i found a clear alternatives brand led tail light with a smoke lense. problem is that it doesn't have a light for the license plate. so after i install a fender eliminator kit, i won't have a light for the license plate. how did you guys get around this??
for reference, this is the kit i was going to purchase. if you look at the picture, i won't need the turn signal lights since it will be integrated with the brake light. but i am not sure what to do about the license plate light:

polish man 12-21-2010 06:12 PM

i got the same fender eliminator on my bike the stock light shines through the hole in front of the plate.

also depending on ur dmv you might wanna get a clear light then do a vinal tint that you can take off for inspection time

polish man 12-21-2010 06:18 PM

i took this saterday night you can see the tag light shining where the tag would be

Turbulenz 12-21-2010 06:27 PM

This is my CA nonintegrated taillight with the same comp werkes fender eliminator kit.. the bulb in the fender elim lights up the plate..

The first taillight I had wasnt as bright as the new revised one.. I like it.. I was just not a big fan of the integrated lights at the time.. they have grown on me.. I miht consider them if I had to replace it.. who knows...

trmoney25 12-22-2010 08:08 AM

thanks for the picture polishman. so let me get this right, you have the stock brake light with a fender eliminator kit? can you take a picture directly of the license tag area so i can see how the light is shining? i was a bit confused on how you described it. i wasn't sure if you meant the original license plate light is shining on it or the brake light.

polish man 12-22-2010 11:17 AM

no i got the integrated cler led light i bought it like that so i dont know whitch brand it is but the fender eliminator mounts the tag light under the seat and it shines through. my tail light also has a tag light on it though. i try and get a pic next time i run it prolly sat.

trmoney25 12-22-2010 12:15 PM

Turbulenz, thanks for the video. so you are saying the competition werkes fender eliminator kit has a license plate light included with it? i thought it didn't have one which is why i was trying to figure out how the license plate would be lit up after make the upgrades.
polishman, no rush on the picture, take your time. but i do appreciate your help.
i want to make sure i buy the right product the first time before i order and install everything.

trmoney25 12-22-2010 12:54 PM

alright i called competition werkes and they explained to me how the tail light works. they said how it will go into the space of your trunk and shine through a little slit above the license place holder, just like you stated polishman. so looks like the clear alternatives led light would work. it would have been nice to have the license plate light built in so that i wouldn't lose some of that trunk space but oh well.
polishman, did you notice a big loss of trunk space with the license plate light sticking in there after you installed the fender eliminator kit?

so back to the led light, looks like everyone agrees to go with Clear Alternatives over a generic brand on ebay? CA is about $135 on ebay, where as the generic brand on ebay is about $60.
The Competition Werkes fender eliminator kit is about $125 on ebay.
Do those prices sound good? I just might pull the trigger finally!

polish man 12-22-2010 02:59 PM

mine was installed when i bought the bike but i cant see you losing any space cause its really behind the trunk and all your taillight wires are there so you dont want nothing bouncin around there. the light mounts overtop of the key lock to give you an idea if you look under your seat youll see what im talkin about

i had this on my phone not a good pic but you get the idea

Turbulenz 12-22-2010 09:33 PM

Here is a picture that might help... you can see the clear alternatives tailight and the fender eliminator... the round thing is the lic plate light.. the good thing is that it is a generic trailer light part that can be replaced anywhere... I think the new ones might have a rectangular light.. not sure how old mine is.. it came with the bike..

the two hooks are mounted on there so that I can tie my tail bag down...

hey polishman, the picture didn't come up?
thanks for the info on the trunk space. don't worry about taking a shot of the light, i think i get the idea of how it works. if you could, shoot me a picture of the trunk space when it is opened. from what you said it sounds like the trunk space isn't reduced that much. of course i am not trying to store a bunch of stuff there! just my insurance & tag paperwork, Xena XX-15 lock, tire gauge, and few key locks.

trmoney25 12-22-2010 10:27 PM

Turbulenz, that's a great shot! so did those hooks come with your bike or did you have to install that afterwards? also where can i get a bag similar to yours? that would be helpful on long runs. is there ever a chance of it sliding around? i'm guessing not much wind hits it since it is sitting directly behind you.

Although I no longer have the banana seat on my F4, I do have the Competition Werkes FE. However, the principle behind the installation is still the same. Here's a couple of pics I posted in this thread... https://cbrforum.com/forum/f4i-main-forum-11/competion-werkes-fender-eliminator-kit-119409/ ...

These should give you a better idea of how the stock license plate light is 'reused' w/ the CW FE kit...

thanks again for that pic. I just submitted an offer on a FE kit on ebay. Lets see if he goes for it! if so then i will try get the CA tail light as well.

Speaking of Clear Alternatives, I wanted to pass the unfortunate news that the company has actually closed it's doors. Clear Alternatives actually did go out of business, but the brand will continue to be distributed by a new company Moto Lume. In fact, Moto Lume has taken over production as well and has drastically improved the quality of parts being manufactured lately.

For lights that are approximately $100 retail (even cheaper on eBay) I think most would be surprised with the new line of Clear Alternatives product being produced by Moto Lume.

trmoney24 01-03-2011 08:11 AM

that explains a lot! i tried to google clear alternatives to see what they have on their site but moto lume was the first result. thanks for the clarification!
