How much can be done with engine in frame?
I've had problems with my F4 and have found that cyl 3 has absolutely 0 compression.
Am I better off with the pain or removing the engine, or can I get a lot done with it still in the bike?

I suggest removing the motor and crack the case open to check for any other signs of wear or damage while you have it out so you have the peace of mind knowing everything is gravy
