hid q and a
ok so my f4 has the 4i conversion..i wanted to do hid's this winter because i wont be riding as much so may as well work on it rite? my harness is split for the two f4i lights.. its just has the female ends on two wires that go to the light on each bulb, now, one of my lights is on normal, bright lights both come on..so do i get a kit for an f4 or the 4i ? i think the bulbs are some how diff but idk..so im double checking before i buy. tia.
that all depends on how the two lights were wired up.. if done correctly you need an H7 kit... two powers and two grounds.. stock H4 is two powers and one ground common to both... not sure what bulb harness plugs your bike has...
just to give you an idea, instead of the light connectors on the harness, it is just regular wire ( 16 gauge i believe, maybe bigger) with female adapters on the end, and they plug directly to the bulbs, 2 power 2 ground, im assuming that when the po wired it he wired one bulb to the low beam in the switch, and the second bulb to the high beam..so it would would work correctly..pretty smart but it dose kinda mess me up when im trying to figure out my hid swap lol i think i can just order the f4i kit and un the 2 powers and the two grounds to the wires that are already there because i dont have the actual factory connectors..i do however have a multimeter to detect power and ground so i should be ok just to do it that way, correct me if im wrong, but i should just be able to de pin the hid kit and run my powers and grounds straight to it... i hope..

I believe the ddm HID's come with 2 male spade connectors in which I would assume would be a direct plug in to the female connectors already in place for each light.
hmmm its worth looking into man, my plan was to find one for a good street price and cut off the plug and play and hard wire it, as far as wiring goes it would basicly be the same minus the " connector" prob get froggy and put an inline fuse in it too...just in case..
Here is a pic of the hid connector:
