headers or not

My headers are pretty rusted. Talked to my mech friend and he said that it was normal and most headers do tend to rust. I hate rust; dont like it and dont want it on my bike. I've found a pretty good deal on new headers, they are aftermarket, $70 shipped and they include the mid-pipe. Im wondering if they would be worth it? Not really looking for performance gains however, I do plan on turning my F4 into a track bike in a year or so.

So should I go for them or just get header tape and wrap my current one? Thanks

Traffic has been kind of light in the F4 section lately. :icon_wink:

TAYQ: Personally, I wouldn't worry w/ it. However, if it bothers you that much, you could go w/ the wrap. A guy I know had his blasted & ceramic coated.

id just take them off, and hit it good with a wire brush, then wrap em ..

Ive never been a big fan of wrap.. . if you hate the look of your rusty pipes, remove them and coat them with brush on high heat stuff from Eastwood.. get the header paint.. they will cure with heat.. I've done some car headers and it works beautifully.. looks brand new. Dont get teh spray on Krylon crap.. the brush on stuff is the way to go. Remember you will probably need new gaskets..

My F4 has a Micron header on it, but that's how I got it... if it didnt have one on there I probably wouldnt have swapped it out..
Good luck

You could spray them with some high temp paint, which is what I'm going to do, but for $70 you might aswell get a new set, thats a steal!

hmmm prob gonna go to town with a wire brush and some CLP. :icon_lol: but no really I've considered header paint but heard of the header paint burning off. Also heard of wrapping them speeding up the rusting process with trapping the water in and all.

I favor the factory headers, as far as exhaust. I'd personally try some of the bake-on ceramic coat/paint stuff double-quick, if I could source it cost-effectively. OTOH, I'm not the sort to care much about a little rust on the header pipes. lol

i dont think the wrap would hold in water, it would prob dry off due to the heat and the air passing through as you drive, ive never had a problem with the wrap before, ebay headers now thats another story lol
