Default FMF Exhaust...its fun adding mods

So after riding my F4 for 3 seasons on the stock exhaust which, lets be honest, on an f4 does NOT sound good, I decided it was time to upgrade. Luckily for my birthday my wife said I could order something, but I was on a 300$ budget (shipped)

I picked up a new FMF slip-on powercore S titanium bronze for 265$ shipped to my door (which is pretty good b/c shipping sucks to Canada...always) -US would have been 230$ BTW.

In the box I found professionally packed:

I was surprised to find that it was oval on one side and goes to round when it gets to the rear side. FMF says this is to increase clearances on cornering...I will be sure to keep that in mind and and use that extra inch I gained from stock!

Installed:

I was surprised how much lighter this exhaust is from the stock, installation was easy, although the instructions sucked...good thing it is an easy concept. I am extremely happy with the sound, nice and throaty/deep in the lower RPM's and gets a bit higher when you get over 7G. This is exhaust is not crazy loud but not too soft, somewhere in the middle.

I was also happy to have my bike feel more torquey in the mid-range....is this endowment effect? I don't know since I have no dyno results but the bike does seem to pull better.

Riding is way more fun with an aftermarket exhaust...should not have waited!

.....JK

It is long, and would not be a fun cut down with the shape change, but I would tackle that project ASAP!!

Its about 2 inches shorter than stock I would say. I'm not so sure I want to shorty it b/c then it would just make it louder. I'm quite happy with the sound and volume. How much difference would it make to hack a few inches?

I have never been a fan of the cut exhaust look anyway, 3 inches would be the most I would consider trimming.

I cut about 4 inches off my rather long D&D exhaust and it looks 10x better. Honestly it didn't get that much louder either, just gave it a little more "tone", but it sounds a lot better and is very bearable.

Thanks man, I think I am going to order some matching color levers to go with it as well.

2000 F4, you cut 4 inches off a D&D exhaust? Those things are notoriously loud so I guess if that is bareable I could do it to mine for sure. Still not sure I would like the look better tho. I think I am going to ride with it as is this season and think about a trim next season.

Something about cutting a brand new can makes me cringe.

I agree, I don't think I would be able to cut a nice looking exhaust like that either. Ride it this summer and see how you like it before you do something you regret I guess.
