Default First highway run

Tonight I took my first highway run

15 miles... 13 miles of street back

About 5 miles into the ride I felt something hit the bottom of my right foot! I figured I ran over a patch of blown tire, I adjusted speed and checked my front brake as I was worried that something may have hit it in the process or that the brake itself may have come loose. Everything checked out so I continued my ride, a bit more cautious however. I reached my exit and pulled off the road as soon as I had the chance and did a walk around of my bike.

Turns out my right fairing blew completely off!!! PO did not have a complete bolt set for the fairing kit so I've made due with what I had, never realizing something like this could happen. My right frame slider also came off as it wasn't fastened onto the frame but rather wedged into the hole cut out of the fairing for it. The hole in the fram that would normally be used to mount the fairing is too big and I haven't found a nut that fits the hole and holds the fairing bolt.

I'm extremely grateful that nothing bad came of this experience, things could have easily gotten very bad, very quickly! I'm praying that the debris left doesn't harm any unsuspecting motorist as well.

Aside from the missing fairing the ride was smooth, and lots of fun

HAHA the same thing happened to me last summer. I was riding at about 80mph on my way to work and all of a sudden i felt a jolt and i almost fell. Turns out my left fairing ripped in half and hit my leg on the way off. Scared the hell out of me. I went back and got the piece turns out there was a hairline crack on the side and a gust of wind was all it took to blow it off. Plus a screw was missing. Good thing you are okay.

Wow!...glad it didn't cause you to loose control.

This is why you should always thoroughly check out every bike b/f you buy it...i.e. take the fairings off to see what's underneath. In your case...missing bolts.
