Get the F4.
Still a "modern" bike.

FYI: a '98 F3 is kinda slow (still faster then anyone needs for the street)
but a '99 F4 is just as fast as a 2003 F4i.

Go with your availible $$$. If you are over 200lbs, definatly F4.

Differences: F3 Vs F4 I'm going by memory, but I think its +10hp & -50lbs.
Also, the suspension is better on the F4.

The F4 was my first bike, Zero experiance and I had no troubles.
Couldn't make the thing fast enough by the end of the 1st season.
Pipe/Filter/Jetkit/Sprockets. I did it all. Doesn't matter what you do, its still a 600.

I think the F4 is a great all around learner. Fast enough to have fun, and not
get totally destroyed by your friends on the highway (we all do it). But, not
enough nutz to hurt (suprise) you unless your being stupid.
Be careful in 1st gear though.

You want my take on the F3 vs F4. If you have the available cash and can find a well cared for F4, get it. Its a great bike and if well maintained will give you many years of service...as for not being fast enough...if you want a 1000 for speed in a straight line all is good and well, but if you complain its not fast enough in the twisties...do yourself a favor and take all that money you were gonna spend on a litre bike and invest in a racing school, cause i guarantee your not utilizing that 600 to its max potential. And if you think im crazy just ask yourself this...if you can push a modern 600 to its limits...then why arent you racing professionally? Get the F4, it will serve you well. Just my .02 cents.
