F4 Shifting Problems..Help!

Hi guys, need your help...friend has a 99 F4, she just had a CF shift lever put on awhile back and since then has had problems shifting from first to second. She says it's like it gets hung in neutral. She has to almost break her foot to get it to shift into second. I rode it myself and while I am no mechanic, it's not just her and there's no way I would ride it like that, safety being an issue.
So question is, is there something that we can loosen or tighten or just do ourselves that can fix this issue, or could there be an underlying problem elsewhere and we should just take it back to the shop and have it checked out? We both are inclined to do this if we can and save some $$. If you all know what this could be, please explain with detail or pics. Thanks in advance....

Ya, it sounds like something in the actual lever set up. Now my bike had problems shifting from neutral to one, sometimes up to two, but that was due to a faulty dentent star. CBR's had problems with them rounding out, and not allowing for proper shifting. Went factory pro and they set me up with a better machined one. However, on yours it sounds like improper linkage or possible lever problems. If they are a legit shop, they should have no problem fixing for nothing considering they put the lever on. Peace
