f4 dies when ridin

Obviously he means the ICM/ECM when he says CDI. In basic, there just 2 different methods of performing the same task.

I've seen lots of guys replacing coils thinking that they are CDI's, 2 totaly different ways of getting a spark. That's a pricey test to replace an ICM. Have you tested your battery by itself? If it runs on another battery just fine, something tells me it's the battery. Jump it again and test the voltage to make sure it's not a charging problem, probably just a battery.

it was just the ground wire keepin it from starting, but it still dies after riding for a few hours. i talked to a guy the other day that said a f3 had the same problem and it was the vaccum coming form the gas tank any ideas on this?

That would be vapor lock. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vapor_lock
Which, if thats the case your gas tank breather hose is pinched or something. That allows the gases from heated gasoline to escape without it causing vapor lock. That should be an easy fix if that is indeed your problem.
