Make sense to change colors? Color options
OK.. I did find what seems to be a good condition 2000 F4.. it is silver with the red like this one..
I do like the scheme, but I love the yellow/black and the silver/black that later F4is have...
Does it make sense to purchase this bike with the intent of either:
1) down the road changing the tank and all plastics to yellow. Would this hurt future resale since the title will say the color is silver?
2) change the side fairings to black ones and then put new silver OEM replicals on it. Have the tank resprayed or just put new decals on top of the OEM red ones (since I assume they are under the clearcoat)
The silver/black paint scheme is not listed anywhere I could find OEM color combinations, but here is a pic I have found of someone that has it with the F4i tail:
Was that color combo even an option? Silver is only listed as a 2000 color.
It's not that I don't like the silver/red.. I do.. but for some reason the yellow just looks killer... just thinkin aloud.. I was all set to buy the bike, but then had second thoughts because of this very reason.
I still have about 3 months before it has some semblence of being riding season.. but the yellow bikes I have seen are either ratty cracked fairing'd machines, salvage titled, half assed polished up, or generally something I am not interested in. I want a bike that is mostly stock with maybe a mild sounding pipe.. seems to be the holy grail.

dream bike or "investment asset'?
unless you keep the stock set and offer that as extras in the sale?
ive seen fiberglass tank shells that you could paint and still have the oem paint hidden under...
but the REAL TRUTH OF THINGS--- dont buy your dream bike for the resale value!!! buy your dream bke cause it makes your heart skipp a beat and makes you wanna jump outa bed in the middle of the night and run to the garage in your pajamas just to sit on it.!
who cares if it looses a hundred bucks of resale! make it what you want it to be and dont b afraid to ride it !!
Seriously-
what do you want to get the bike for? cause its yer baby? or to flip it?
(ps. i just got my 99 f4 - yello and black- and ripped it apart and painted it black -Haha. different strokes...

heres my guidelines- as someone who overthinks things and worries too much about decissions like this myself.
if you have reservations if its the bike for you then dont buy it!
the bike you want (and you sound like you know what you want) is out there !
youll find it.
eventually youll find it!
thats just my 2cents
goodluck!

I do overthink and overanalyze... I admit that.. lol
I am buying this bike as something to keep for a long, long time. I don't plan on moving out of it for quite a few years.... that's why I want to get the one that I really want. the silver/red one I found is in great shape, but the price isn't a "man I have to grab this up before someone else does" deal. It has 18K miles on it and I can have it for $2800.. I'd sell all of the plastics and tank and then search for yellow ones in mint shape. I found one about an hour and a half away that is yellow.. but I have to find out more about it.
thanks,
Adam

cool!
goodluck-
id offer you all my yello bits but my tanks dented and fairings are scuffed up.
if youre set on yellow then youll find it- yeah 2800s ok but not a steal . i think youd regret it when your mint oem yellow one pops up in a week or two for 27 ya know?
i payed 2000 for mine but its nowhere near mint. haha
