Default Clutch won't disengage

So if anyone has seen my earlier thread about my spring break project (turning my f4 into a pseudo street fighter), it has been postponed indefinitely due to finances hence no pics.

Now to a more recent, and more pressing matter. My roomie, who is looking to get a bike, was sitting on my bike and familiarizing himself with the clutch, shift lever, brake levers etc... I didn't think he was actually trying to shift gears just kinda going through the motions.

It wasn't until I started the bike up to go for a midnight ride that I noticed my clutch lever wasn't responding the way it normally does. I made a few adjustments at the lever and the crank case and started my ride. I didn't get very far when I noticed the lever had become quite loose and shifting had become quite difficult. I turned around and had a \very unpleasant ride home . Today I found that my clutch will not disengage and adjusting the clutch cable only allows for a temporary resolve. I have undone the clutch cable, drained the oil, and removed all the bolts to the right side crank case cover.

I figured if I could get in I can see what exactly is wrong with my clutch lifter piece, after much trial and lots of frustration I simply could not remove the crank case cover. My bike is now sitting covered and in sad condition awaiting some good ol' fashion TLC from daddy lol.

Am I doing the right thing in trying to remove the crank case cover? If so any pointers and removing it correctly? All the bolts are out it just wont seem to budge.

P.S. The lifter piece rests unusually close to the clutch cable stay now, such that pulling the clutch in results in lifter piece (only has about a cm of space to move) pushing against the cable stay

I'm thinking the Pole has a good point. You may have gone too far, too fast.
If you could post some pictures of the linkage areas (of the bars and the side-cover),
it might help answer more definetively.

Hope this helps, Ern

I dont know if this helps but did you ever pop the clutch cover off and inspect the lifter pin? Mine did this as i was leaving work one day and the clutch would not disengage. It turned out that my lifter pin actually broke. I ordered a new one and it was good as new.

it didn't feel as if the cable was breaking, although i wouldn't completely discount that as a possibility. I appreciate your feedback I'll post pics tomorrow Ern... I'm pretty sure the cable is in fine condition but like I said It is still very possible, however the lift pin still rests awfully close to the cable stay... this will be more apparent once I've posted some pics, but this is why I decided to try and remove the crank case cover as I'm sure I can reset the pin from the inside. I'll work on it tomorrow and put up pics, stay tuned lol

YES! I'm positive now that it is the lifter pin, as I completely removed the clutch cable and inspected it, no frays or anything like that... I thought perhaps the lifter simply got shifted but didn't know it could be broken. I've been trying to remove the right side stator cover but that damn thing seems to be one there REAL good! Once I get it off I'll be able to replace it. As stated earlier I removed all the bolts but it just won't budge! I'm pulling my hair out over this. I'm going to try with a hammer as soon as I can get my hands on it, placing a towel on the tabs and lightly tapping (or wailing) on the tabs from behind lol. Attached are some pics of the lifter pin so you guys can get an idea how close it is to the cable stay.

Does anyone know where I can order a lifter pin from???

I had a hard time getting mine off too I used a hammer and a wedge just to break the gasket seal. You need form a gasket to put it back on. Also i ordered my lifter pin from cheapcycleparts. Ronayers prob has it or a normal old honda dealership. Good luck.

Funny news guys, turns out what I was referring to as the lifter pin is actually the lifter arm... while I am quite savvy mechanically speaking, I have no idea what anything on the bike is called lol. That being the case a new lifter pin came in the mail today yayyy, now I have an extra one. Looks like the bike will be sitting for another week while I await delivery of a new lifter arm . Thanks again for all your help guys, being a member of this site has given me the confidence to really be a DIY kinda guy. Although I always have been, tackling mechanical problems on a machine this delicate would have scared me before whereas now it's no problem at all
