What I'm talking about is that you can't expect the highest speed shown on your speedo to have any relevance to what your actual top speed is, that's not how they do it. Heck, for quite a long time car speedos topped out at 85mph, even if your car was capable of 100+.

The reality is that the gauge face on your CBR is probably used on many other Honda motorcycles of that same age.

See if you can borrow one from a friend. Realistically, 155 is about it, but fer chrissake, you should pretty much never spend time there... The list of places you can realistically ride to 150mph+ without risking your life or drivers licence is a damn small one.

Sometime back in the '80's, the manufactures thought if they topped the speedo out at 80mph, people would not go past that speed and the vehicles would be safer. The fact was that, people driving over 80mph couldn't judge their speed and plenty got killed so the speedos went back up. Currently the European market has a law that all vehicles read faster than actual speed to slow people down.

With GPS you will most likely find a 10% error in the speedo. It will read 10% high I'll bet.

Speaking of judge, keep twisting that right hand and you'll find out how fast that bike is. It will go real fast to the impound.lol

Yep...my first job out of collage included a company car...a 1981 Chevy Citation V6. My job entailed a lot of driving, and traveling the backroads between Boise and Idaho Falls I'd wrap that speedo way past the 80mph and nearly back to zero (some of those roads were long, straight, and empty). I had forgotten all about the '80mph limit' back then.

Fun times.

Some broke when pushed past 80mph. Easy replacement on a bike, not so much in a car.

Yep, I broke the speedo on my '76 Buick Century Special. It just kind of laid over there on the right side. I didn't care. it was more of a badge of honor than anything. Also, I didn't have to lie when my dad asked me how fast I was going and I said, "I don't know".
That was a wicked fast car. One of the 1st aluminum block V6's.

Hmm...the old Chevy speedo didn't seem to mind it.
