Default RE: Carb Issue

Well called the shops and got a quote but I decided not to pay. After going through the manual I feel like I can do the carb sync and valve clearance check myself.

I also decided to check my throttle position sensor this morning and found it to be faulty! I think this is the whats causing my bogging down issue on WOT. I hooked up the multimeter to the sensor directly and got a good reading at the rested throttle positon, but as I twisted the throttle into fully open the reading did not change at all! So I went ahead and ordered a new one for around 40. I really do think that this is the cause of my issue. Bike runs fine on low throttle increases but then doesn't get the proper signal when I decide to get on it.

Hope it gets fixed after the replacement. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

I'm guessing its too early to have this fixed yet...but tell me how it turns out. I have 45k on the clock . Still runs great, though looks a little rough after being stolen.

Yeah, I'm still on standby for the TPS. The shop said it should be in by today -I'll post the results as soon as I found it. The waiting is driving me mad!

I am also in the 40k mi range

Any time you take the carbs off you have to resync them

Well I plan on synchronizing the carbs once I get the TPS sensor in and tested out, but why would I "have" to synchronize them if I didnt change any screw settings (pilot screw, sync screw)?

The TPS is located on the right side under the gas tank right next to where the two throttle cables stop.

Hey everyone, after reading the posts in the forum i fear i might be having a simular carb issue with my bike. I just had it in the shop for a simple oil change and spring tune up (chain lube/tighten and such) and after being charged almost 200 dollars plus having the shop lose my liscense plate for a week, I have no desire to go back there. So here is the situation:

I took the bike out on wednesday for about 20 mins and it ran fine. Parked it in the garage and started it up saturday afternoon. I had the choke on full for about 2 mins while i was waiting for the bike to warm up. I got a call on my phone so i shut the bike off for a sec so i could answer it (letting it go off choke for a few secs first before i turned it off). When i restarted it with the choke, it seemed to start like normal but i noticed the rpms dropping. I decided to take off the choke a litttle and gave it some throttle and it stalled. I tried to let the carbs clear, assuming they were flooded but that didnt do anything. Now everytime i try to start it, the starter cranks and it may turn over a few times but thats it. I put in fresh fuel, took off the body fairings and checked the air filter. The fuel pump seems to be working ok.

What would you guys suggest i try for my next approach? Is it worth taking off the radiator to look at the spark plugs?I'll likely try putting some starter fluid into thethrottle bodies through the airbox. Thanks in advance for any advice.

how long ago was this? sounds like it got flooded. and if it was recently let it sit and dry out.

It had all happened saturday afternoon. I suspected that maybe the carbs were simply flooded but even after sitting overnight, they didnt clear and the same symptoms occurred. The only other oddity was when i checked the tank, it was almost empty even though the fuel light never came on. Obviously i added fresh gas still to no avail.

It really is a mystery as Ive already been out on the bike a few times this season and its been fine. The only conclusion i can think of is that maybe the plugs got gunked up from the choke being on for too long which is why im in the process of taking the whole front end apart so i can check them. Other than that id think maybe the fuel pump stopped working or its just a carb issue.Anyone have any other ideas?

On a side note, anyone know a good place to pick up a wrenchfor the spark plugs on the f4? (I never got a tool kit with the bike when i bought it used.)
