Default Brake lights f4!!!

hey guys,

I am completely stumped. I cannot figure out my brake lights. They wont come on via hand nor foot. Ive checked (by eye) the switches by my hand and foot, i've checked grounding, i've checked the bulbs, i've checked the wiring (for disconnections and kinks). I haven't taken things apart. Still learning about motorcycle pieces. I did replace the battery but they weren't working before anyways. Where else do i look? or what instruments do i need? Did i miss any crucial steps in what i already did? Any direction at all with this??

there is a plug under the seat at the battery (there are 2 actually). One of them is the plug for the rear brake light wiring.. try that... as for the front.. dunno.. are the bulbs getting power in the sockets?

Yeah the tail lights work fine. I've looked at the rear brake relay under the seat. The front brake one is at the handle bar. How do i check wiring harnesses? do i unplug them? cuz it feels like if i try to unplug them, they will rip apart. What i mean is that they feel permanent.

I have a few question for you before I can help answer your brake light questions:

1) at any time were your brake lights working?

2) are your brake lights stock or aftermarket replacements?

3) how are you verifying your connections from the bulbs to the harness?

Lights were working when i got the bike, stopped working a few months ago (shame on me for riding without them, i've been stuck and don't wanna pay for it). All of a sudden, they didn't work.

Stock lights, no led, no integrated stuff.

I'm not quite sure how to verify the connections to the bulbs themselves.

If you have checked your connections, your next step would be to get a multimeter and test your bulb sockets.. You can do this by removing a bulb and using the multimeter in the socket. If you have voltage there, you need new bulbs. Since you said they both just stopped working, chances are it's further down the line.

Ok, i did get a multimeter the other day, I just don't know how to use it quite yet. Which dial do i set it to? and then once i do that, where do i actually probe around and what readings am i looking for? does the key need to be in?

The key needs to be in and to the on setting when you test for running lights.. When checking for voltage on the brake lights, you need to have one of the brake levers held in.. I will post a few links for you only because I can show you what to do if I was there, but explaining electricity isn't easy for me. The first link is for using your multimeter and the next will be

Have you replaced the bulbs? They are dual fillament, which means the running lights will still work.
