Default Battery Recommendation?

The time has finally come for a new battery. Anyone have any suggestions of a good battery? I have seen some ads in CycleGear catalog for some that are supposedly lighter weight, and others that have lifetime guarantees.

I would assume lighter the better. I look forward to hearing people's experiences.

Yuasa. They're pricey but you depend on them. That means alot to me. Batteries are def one of those things that you generally get what you pay for. So keep that in mind.

Welcome to the forum.

Li-Ion batteries have come WAY down in price this year. You can pick one up for around $185 now. They weigh like 2 POUNDS, which is an awesome weight decrease. They'll hold a charge for about 12-months in storage with no trickle charger or anything, "crank" faster than lead acid, charge in like 1/6th the time, have (allegedly) twice the lifetime of lead acid, and pretty much eliminate kills from discharging.

I used to kill my battery like twice a year from leaving the ignition on, and was resorting to buying crap batteries just cuz of the cost, which exacerbated the problem. Haven't killed the Li-Ion yet, but damn have i tried.

Default Yuasa Batteries

Thanks for the suggestions. I looked up the Yuasa battery and the best price I found is $62.97 w/ free shipping from Powersport Superstore.

Has anyone ever purchased stuff from them? If so, would you recommend this site/store?

Thanks again,
Eric

I just installed a Shorai battery in my Gixxer and it seems to be a great combination of extremely light weight and strong performance. Supposedly, these batteries last longer than conventional lead-acid batteries and a Vegas summer or two will be the ultimate test. Here are a couple pics I took during the install:

i have 1 of these in my f4i and f4, and they work great. They stand up to the cold good. The only thing i see they could do better is the terminals. They are siliconed in which means if you over tighten you can F up the terminals but I havnt had any trouble.

ps. dont get any battery that isnt sealed or you will be buying another one before to long

Here's an off-the-wall question:

When I think of laptop batteries (nearly all Li-Ion these days), I don't really think of outstanding longevity. 2-3 years of daily use is the most I've ever had one last, no matter the brand or type. I expect at least double that kind of life out of my lead-acid car batteries. Are you guys really seeing better durability (lifespan) out of Li-Ion motorcycle batteries? Honestly?

Default Shorai Battery

Thanks for the heads up on the Shorai battery. After reading up on these they look like the way to go.

Not sure of long term durability vs. stock. I did buy my bike in '06 and just now need to replace in '11, with what looks like a stock battery.

Anyone know a good place to get a good deal on the Shorai? I found one on Ebay that goes for $109 + $6 shipping. Seems like a good deal, and the few websites I found were listing it for more.

Thanks,
Eric
