about adjusting valves cbr 600 f4
for valve adjustment on a cbr 600 f4 do you need to buy a shim kit for it or can you tighten them up im not sure or how would i go about adjusting the valves in this thing.
I'm kind of interested too. My 99 F4 has 42K miles (bought it a few months ago with 40K) and I'm sure it needs the valves adjusted. I've done valves on my Ninja 250 and an old KZ400 but never something this fancy.
all i can say is have fun.
It is a major pain in the butt with the motor in the frame.
basically you will want to do a valve clearance check and THEN start buying shims. Sometimes you can get lucky and move shims around so you don't have to buy as many.

What about getting someone professional to do it?
At least if he/she screws up at least you have someone to blame...LOL!
I'm sure it'll cost you an arm and a leg, but it will be done the right way.
I try staying away from the motor components, but that just my opinion.

i figure i'll take it apart, figure the shims i need, and buy them. might cost me 2-3-4 weeks down time but **** it'll save me a bunch of money

16,000 Km may be a little early.
My 2000f4 is a 25800 km. My mech said he's checked valves on these lots at the recommended interval and they were spot on. Would I be ok u think waiting till next spring? It will then have about 32km on it. Thanks
Check does not mean adjust. If you've kept up on all of the rest of the normal maintenance,
it's often just a check and then close it back up.
If you're going to keep the bike and LIKE working on it, get one of the shim kits
available for your bike. Most go for $80 and generally have enough of the various
shims to do the job. You won't have to stop and order and you recycle the used shims
back into the set. Besides the gasket, feeler guage and time, that's your only investment.
When compared to the shop-time/cost, this is a relatively, easy way to save money
for a steady, competent shade-tree.
You just can't be one of those "set things down, wherever" types. You have to be a
methodical, organized mechanic. No clutter or distractions and it's not that big a deal.
