Where is my 6th gear.....
Ok im pretty new to riding sportbikes, so this may be my ignorance showing through but here is my problem. I cannot seem to shift to 6th gear.
I shift down once to first, then up four more times to get to my final gear which is 5th. I have tried to pull up one more time at different RPM's but there is nothing there. The odd thing is i am running at what seems to be normal rpms range for 6th gear. My rpms are around 4500 to 5000 at 55 to 60mph.
Anyone know what there bike rpm's are at 55 or 60mph
maybe i just dont know how to count Anyone else ever have this issue

RE: Where is my 6th gear.....
I've had the misfourtune of riding in sleet. I had to ride in 6th gear at about 2500RPM's at about 20-25MPH to keep from fishtailing. Your RPM's shouldn't matter.
On the same note, I only use sixth on the highways. Maybe 85-90MPH at about 7500RPM's is where I stay put (when cruising).
So...
Go to neutral, 1 down, go back to neutral, 1/2 up - 2nd, 1 more - 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th.
I don't know you or anything about your experience, but I'm thinking you may be in 6th and not know it. Just like many riders forget what gear they're in (this should NOT include experienced riders!), you probably are losing track.
If, however, this isn't the case, you may have some gearbox/transmission problems, such as a shot 6th gear. If you are really confident that it's missing, take it to a shop.
But you'll feel pretty silly if they have to explain to you how to shift your bike Got any buddy's that are mechanically inclined?

RE: Where is my 6th gear.....
Well my experience on a sportbike is pretty limited but i ride dirtbikes quit often and have never had a problem counting my shifts. However you may be correct that i am loosing count, I will have to double check again but i feel pretty confident I am not getting to 6th gear
I will sit on it tonight and shift it and see what i come up with. hopefully im not miscounting

RE: Where is my 6th gear.....
My F3 shifts noticeably in all gears except 6th. It definitely clicks in all gears except 6th. When I shift into 6th, there's only a little pressure on my foot to make it change. For a while I was considering it 5 1/2 gears....with 1/2 being sort of like overdrive. 6th is there though....like it should be.

Yeah at first i thought my bike was a 5 speed, but its not 6 is there it just feels a little wierd sometimes.... get up more speed and give it a good thunk with the clutch in... if you try to bang it, it might not go.... and you will notice the rpms drop... cya bro.. good luck.. hope you dont have probs with the trans

RE: Where is my 6th gear.....
When i bought my first bike I had it towed less than two miles for 100 bones because I couldnt get it started. Had the guy I bought it from a week prior come over and help me figure out what was wrong, I tested the sparks, the fuel pump, all the fuel lines and then we both decided that these bikes usually need gasoline to run properly.
Happens to us all...
