Default Where to find a header

I have a Jardine slip on muffler and intermediate pipe already, I just want to find a header to complete my exhaust. I'm not looking for any brand in particular, just a good aftermarket header to help open up the bike sound and performance wise. Problem is that I'm having no luck finding one unless it comes with complete exhaust set up for around $1,000. That's not my idea of a good deal. Any suggestions where to find a good header?

The 2 most common places to look would be ebay, and Craigs List. You may have to buy the entire system, but for a greatly reduced price than new.

My wife's bike has a full V&H system on it that I'll be taking off and putting an OEM header back on. I'm not going to be doing that for a few months, but if you're in the market at that time, I'll look you up. It's a chrome header, with quite a bit of surface rust on it. Nothing nice to look but it's covered by the fairings anyway. Below is a photo from my Oil Change How To showing her header.

How was the sound and performance difference? I've been trying to find a decent one on eBay but it seems they are impossible to find for some reason. I figured I'd have to clean up and paint a used header anyways

I can't say how different the sound is because it was on the bike when we got it 3 years ago. From a performance standpoint, I can tell you that her bike has a higher peak HP than mine (we put them on a Dyno back in August just to see). The Dyno also showed that in the mid range, from say about 4000 to 9000 RPM her torque is much flatter as is the HP, where as on mine there is a smooth increase. If we're in traffic, or riding down the highway and we roll on the throttle, my stock F3 with a slip on walks away from her bike like she hit the brakes. That's why we're putting her bike back to stock.

Ya know, if we were drag racing and shifting gears on the top end all the time, then that might be ok. But that's not where we ride. We both like the quick responsiveness that is demonstrated on my 98 all the time. A couple of weeks ago I was attempting to see if anyone here on the forum could tell me what jets they were running to see if I could eliminate that flat area. Not a single response to the post. Either no one is running full exhausts with K&N filters and jet kits, or they really don't know what's in their carbs.

My suggestion is, use the slip-on, get the sound you love to hear, but keep the performance where you get to use it 97% of the time.

I was looking at their product a while back. Stock header, just in stainless steel. Good product from what I hear though.

If no one has expressed any interest yet, I'd like to grab that exhaust system from ya when it comes time, Dirt! I know the condition you keep your bikes in and it looks like you're pretty close to me here in Orlando.

Keep me in mind if you don't have any takers yet. PM me what you think you might like to get for it..

PM sent...

My plans are to get factory header (I already have it) ceramic coated. Then get a new slip-on. Re-Jet the carbs back to original, replace the CV slides that were probably drilled, synch it, perform the Idle Air adjustment, and then put back on the Dyno to see where she is. If it runs like my 98, she'll be really happy. And as we all know, if she's happy, then I'm happy.
